Christmas in Melbourne in 2010

This year we celebrated Christmas in Melbourne. Two of our kids flew down to join us there for five days and we had a great time together exploring this lovely city together. It was totally different from other Christmases. Very relaxed Christmas for
me, as we were all living in a caravan. No real room to prepare big meals etc.

Both Chloe and Pete arrived in Melbourne on the 23rd December. They had an early morning flight in, which meant they had been up since 4am in Brissie to get to the airport. Pete hadn't slept real well the night before due to a bad injury, so he was pretty tired when they arrived. We spent the morning chilling out at the Park catching up on all Chloe's news whilst Pete caught up with some sleep.

We ended up going into the city in Melbourne later in the afternoon to see the Myer's Christmas window, and for Pete to catch up with a friend for dinner before he flew to Queensland for Christmas.

On Christmas Eve, we spent a couple of hours visiting here

Had lots of fun especially in the sports section, all of us having a go at different things. We had wheelchair races. From the photos you can see how much fun both Chloe and I had, we were barely able to race from laughing so much, where the guys took it so much more seriously. We really did have a good time here, and could have easily spent another couple of hours.

Chloe was keen to check out Luna Park so we headed off there nextWe were probably a little disappointed in the size of Luna Park. It is not as big as we thought it would be, and probably pretty expensive considering there really weren't that many rides to go on. Still we wandered around there for an hour or more before heading off to show the kids these. ( They were just down the road)

I feel in love with these coloured bathing sheds when we were in Melbourne before heading to Tassie, so I was more than happy to share them with the kids. It was a perfect afternoon to spend on the beach too. The weather was fabulous. Not too cold and not to hot. Just perfect.

Christmas Day and we all slept in.... not somthing we normally do. Very laid back morning, Special savoury crossiants for Breakfast, and then we opened our Christmas presents.

There was no real lead up for Christmas for us this year... no decorations at home, no special baking.. it sort of all caught up on us once we arrived in Melbourne. We did however find a little Christmas tree to put up in the annex to put our presents under. Even Christmas shopping was done at the last minute and was very light on this year, and yet we all enjoyed our day.

Steve's brother Shane and his family are presently living in Melbourne, so we actually got to catch up with them and have Christmas lunch and afternoon at their place. We had a really great time together. Would be the first Christmas in about 15 years that we have had with any of STeve's side of the family, so it really was a very special day. They have an almost 5 year old daughter, so we really did get to experience some of the excitement of a child's Christmas.

Some very special memories of a very special day. The time the kids had with us in Melbourne went way too quickly. Pete was keen to visit the Great Ocean Road whilst he was in Melbourne, so on Boxing Day we took off at 8am to drive the Great Ocean Road again for the second time in as many weeks. It was really quite special to be able to share it with the kids. In fact there were many occasions whilst we were away that we wished we were able to share some of the wonderful experiences and some of the awesome scenerey we saw with the kids, so to be able to share this with Pete and Chloe was pretty special. Will share that in another post.
