Time has got away on me.

I've had a couple of phone calls from friends this week, a little worried that they my regular updates on my blog haven't happened for a while, so thought I had better get on and update on our travels.

There is so much going on in our lives at the moment it is honestly really hard to catch up and keep on top of things. Since we have been away, Queensland has been experiencing their worst floods in recorded history. Both family and close friends have all been affected by these floods. I heard on the news tonight, that the devastation is such that there is more land in Queensland covered by water that the size of NSWs and Victoria joined together. We have never seen anything like it. At this stage we are at least two to three weeks away from being able to get to our home town, as they are about to experience and all time flood record due to peak next week, and it will then be another 10 days until the roads will be clear enough for us to drive home, so we will be spending a little extra time with our kids in Brissie and visiting my folks on the Sunshine Coast.

The last couple of weeks have absolutely flown since we have been back on the mainland of Australia. We have done the Great Ocean Road twice, visited Mt. Gambier in South Australia, back to Ballarat and then into Melbourne where we met up with our kids for Christmas, and then almost made the journey back into Qld on our way home. Qld has been torn apart by flooding since Christmas, and at this stage we are at least two to three weeks away from being able to get to our home town, as they are about to experience and all time flood record due to peak next week, and it will then be another 10 days until the roads will be clear enough for us to drive home, so we will be spending a little extra time with our kids in Brissie and visiting my folks on the Sunshine Coast. I am sure there will be photos to follow soon.

Since my last update we spent the good part of a week exploring this part of our beautiful country.
This was our first step in exploring these great landmarks along the Victorian Coast. Whilst we were here, I overheard one of the overseas tourists comment, that this is really the Grand Canyon of Australia, and thought it was a pretty neat summary of this lovely coastline.

Our next stop was to view these amazing formations.
As we arrived just after a morning of rain, we were actually fortunate enough to see some of the waterfalls flowing.

After going and visiting all the others we then headed back to the Twelve Apostles to watch the Sun set. It was freezing COLD, but such a lovely experience.
From the 12 Apostles, we next visited Loch Ard Gorge - amazing views and amazing stories of shipwreck survivals.

We ended up staying overnight at Port Campbell -

great little caravan park right on the river - so got ourselves set up before heading down the coast in the other direction to check out these amazing scenic sights.

I think the one that pulled at Steve's heart strings was this boat ramp at Boat Bay. Unbelievable. I can't quite believe that anyone would use it as a boat ramp. I am more inclined to think that it is a tourist attraction. Certainly impressed us.

We really loved this scenic drive -
Warrnambool was on our next list of places to stop and visit and we spent a couple of days here.

We visited a couple of really interesting places around here, one being the Flagstaff Hill Museum. The great stretch of coastline along the Great Ocean Road was notorious for shipwrecks in the 18th and early 19th Century. Hundreds of ships were wrecked along this coastline, and we were able to read about a lot of this at the Flagstaff Hill Museum.

This place was amazing and we spent most of the afternoon wandering around and exploring it. We just wish that we would have had another couple of housrs to explore it.

After Flagstaff Hill Museum closed we thought we would head out to Tower Reserve, as we knew we had a few good hours of sunlight left.
It was truely amazing scenery around here. Well we have had three full days on the road now, so might just head to bed as I an oarly keep my eyes open. Will try and update again in the next day or so,

We spent 7 days driving the Great Ocean Road and still didn't see it all. I can't wait to spend more time there.

Hope the trip home goes okay, its so scary the flooding in Queensland right now.
