ANOTHER DRINK & DRAW ONLINE DRAWING CLASS...

I did another online drawing class on Saturday night..
As it was Anzac Day, our subject was Poppies...
I am really enjoying these Drawing classes and I have learnt a lot...
It was actually a watercolour and drawing class but unfortunately I didn't have any watercolour paints, but I am about to rectify that..
Have put in my order for Mother's Day...

Online drawing class with Anna..
This class took me out of my comfort zone a bit...
There was no drawing the flowers before hand...
Just a few circles of paint on the page and from that we ended up drawing the poppies onto the painted area....
I usually like to see the picture on the page first.  I like to see the whole picture, so to just let it evolve and not know where I am going is a whole different approach to painting...
We started with a few paint circles on the page....
Then we started drawing some stems and the flower shapes around the painted dots on the page...
One of the things Anna has taught me, is to use the opposite page to the page you are drawing on as your practice page...  testing out the colours of your paints,  getting your shapes right for your flowers,  sketching flowers first also..  The other thing she pointed out too is to hold your pencil loosely and back along the stem of the pencil, as it gives you more movement in your art...
Adding all the stems and then some buds...

During this stage of the painting, we also got to use the watercolours to add some interest to our art by painting in some buds, almost as a shadow.
Time to add some green paint to the stems...
Once our flowers and buds were all drawn and painted in, we got to add some more paint and put some colour into the stems...
I am enjoying these classes... in both the different classes I am doing, but instructors talk about an ugly part of your painting... It all has an ugly side before your masterpiece develops... This has been a huge encouragement to me, as I am a bit of a perfectionist and I get a little discouraged if I can't replicate when I can see in my head...
Her finished art..
As I didn't have any watercolour paints, I thought I would use my Chameleon Pens, as you are supposed to be able to use the pens to get some light and dark shades.  I was pretty disappointed with them... I think they would be fine for small areas to colour, but my flowers were too big and I couldn't regulate the colour...
Still I was happy with the composition and the drawing side of things..
I definitely want to have a go and at doing this again once I get my watercolour paints...

My attempt at drawing the poppies...
If you are interested in doing some of these Quarantine classes.  Check our Anna's  Shiny Happy Drink and draw class here.  She also looks to have some awesome paid classes as well... Haven't ventured there yet....
