IAN AND KATHY COME FOR A VISIT....

We had planned to spend a lot of time with these guys this year with three holidays booked together,  all of them overseas but COVID soon changed all those plans..

Now that we are able to leave our areas and travel in Queensland is now possible, Ian and Kathy decided to hitch their van and head north...  We are planning on doing the same in a month or two's time also...

Steve only has 9 more days with students and 11 more days at work before he finally finishes also...  only six months later than when he planned.  Still although it was hard going back for the extra six months, we are also grateful to the school for offering him some extra work.   Although he has really enjoyed just being a classroom teacher again this term has been particularly hard now that things have opened up again and week in week out we have watched caravans passing through town setting off on their own adventures..

I think the hardest thing has been not knowing whether we will get a chance to go when he finally does finish again, as the situation with COVID changes from week to week.  No certainty of plans at all this year.

Anyway, Ian and Kathy arrived on Sunday on their way North and we were blessed to have three days of their company..

Last time they were here, I wanted to take them up to Mt Archer but the park was closed due to the renovations that were happening up there so this time we packed up afternoon tea and headed up the mountain to take in the views, the tree top walk and to watch the sunset...

It was almost 4pm by the time we got up there so decided to have our afternoon tea first... by the time we got up there the wind had come up and it was starting to gt a little cold...

After our afternoon tea we pack up our gear an put it back in the car before heading down to the amphitheatre to see the view of Rockhampton..

We had planned to enter the boardwalk from this end of the walk and walk back to the picnic area near where our car was parked.  Unfortunately the entrance of the walk was blocked off as they have now started the final stage of the renovations and restoration work up on Mt Archer...

It looks like a new toilet block is being built and apparently there will be a lot more picnic tables erected up there.... It seems that the area surround the children's play area is being developed.  It will be good to have some picnic tables in this area as parents will then be able to set up picnics and at the same time keep an eye on their children..

For us it meant that we had to walk back to where we had had our afternoon tea and approach the walk from that end of the board walk...

When we got to the first lookout, we notice a couple photographing a lovely baby kookaburra who was just sitting in a tree about our heads..

The kookaburra sitting in a tree above us where we could just watch him...

Amazing views looking out to the coast

The other mate... both look to be young birds..

The birds sat in the tree for ages.  In fact they were till sitting them when we returned from walking the length of the boardwalk..

There are lots of volcanic plugs along the plains and we had an awesome view of these from this vantage point.... In fact there were a few fires out there today and it almost looked like a couple of active volcanoes.  Super cool...

We continued on from here to get a good view out over Rockhampton.  The sun was now sitting fairy low on the horizon, so it wasn't the best time of day to take photos up here.  Ian and Kathy really enjoyed the walk and the view though.  We first met them when they lived in Rocky 40 odd years ago, so they always enjoy coming back and checking out their old stomping ground...

The views over the city are stunning from up here, and this is now quite a popular place to come.  There were heaps of people up here this afternoon...

Amazing views of the Fitzroy River

Amazing views of the city

Heading back to the car by the same path we have come down, we noticed that the Kookaburra's were still sitting in the same trees as they had a good half hour ago....

Those kookaburras are still sitting in the trees..

On our way back to the car we noticed a family of rock wallabies just off the path.  It is lovely to just be outdoors and see all the beauty of nature and the wildlife....  It is very soothing to your soul, little outings like this.....

It has been a lovely afternoon up on the mount... Heading home we got to witness a beautiful sunset as we drove down the mountain.  We stopped at Saddleback to take a photo of it....

Lovely sunset as we drove down the mountain..

It has been a lovely afternoon with wonderful company....

So blessed to live in this magnificent city with some many free things we can do and appreciate...
