HEADING TO BRISBANE TO CELEBRATE BIRTHDAYS...
e only had a limited holiday up north this year, as Willow was very keen to have her Poppy come down and celebrate her birthday....
Steve has only ever managed to get to Brisbane for 2 of Willow's birthdays previously as her birthday falls in one of the busiest times of the year for him as a teacher with exams and report writing time being full on...
As we're not sure what next year holds travel wise, we figured that we needed to make the effort to be there this year if we could.
We arrived home from holidays on the Friday night and took a couple of days to unpack the van, wash it and tidy it and then cover it... We also had doctor's appointments, and other appointments we had to fit in before heading off again...
Finally we left on the Thursday and drove to the Sunshine Coast where we stopped overnight, we caught up with our friends, John and Barb for a coffee the following morning after we had haircuts and then headed to Bris.
Willow was having a little party with three friends on the Saturday and then a big family luncheon on the Sunday at Chloe's place...
Willow was up bright and early... early like 4.30am. We had to tell her that she had to wait until 6am for all the adults to wake up. Still an early morning for us all...The present routine on Birthday mornings is that everyone hops up onto Mum and Dad''s bed for the present opening. All very exciting...
She got very spoilt by her Mum and Dad who bought her a fitbit for her birthday. It has been a good thing, as it is motivating her to become more active. She is also using the timer to let her know when it is time to stop using technology and also when playtime is over and it is bath time. Most importantly it is also helping her learn time...
Although Sarah makes the cake the day before, she always leaves the icing until the morning of Willow's Birthday, and this year Willow wanted a "How to Train Your Dragon"theme for her birthday party, so Sarah had to come up with some sort of Dragon Cake. Willow also really loved the cake she had for her 6th Birthday and wanted it to be a double cake with lolly pops like that also. I am so proud of Sarah... she makes amaking birthday cakes for her children and makes their day very special... They wake up to a decorated bedroom and the fun doesn't stop for the rest of the day...
Whilst Steve and I hung up some decorations out the back...
Sarah got busy icing and decorating Willow's 8th year old Birthday Cake. It looked amazing....
Willow wanted to help by colouring in the Happy Birthday sign that Sarah bought to put in the cake. We got our gold paint pens out and did that whilst Sarah iced..
Willow was absolutely thrilled with her Cake. In fact Max was saying that he wanted this cake for his birthday also, although I think he will probably go back to wanting his pirate cake before it is time for his birthday..
The children started arriving just before lunch... Sarah had organised some back yard games for them to play. Willow had only wanted to invite three little friends from school. She could have had five, but she only wanted three so it was pretty easy to organise an afternoon of fun for them...
The first game they played was pin the fire on the dragon. Again, Sarah spent an evening drawing up a big dragon for the girls to pin the fire on as she was unable to find one to buy... I told her she should laminate it and then she would have it for future use, or at least others could use it at their parties...
After this game they had a game of tiggy with a difference. Sarah had bought several cans of silly string, and the aim of the game was to spray it on someone and if they got caught with silly string on them they had to sit in a time out corner until someone who was still in the game could come and tag them to release them again. They loved this game and must of run around for over an hour or more trying not to get caught....
Max loves this stuff and of course he had to have a tin to spray everyone, Unfortunately for him, it was very hard to run and stray at the same time, so Colin humoured him a little and was a ready target for him
They ran themselves ragged and I think in the end Sarah went through
about six cans of silly string before they were finally exhausted enough
to call it quits..
They were keen to do the Pinata next. Sarah had picked up a dragon from spotlight and had filled it with heaps of lollies, so they were all happy to give this a good bash....
By the time they had finished this, it was time to blow out the candles, cut the cake and hoe into the party food...
Sarah had also made some mini meringue, snails, hedgehogs and mice for her birthday and these were very popular with the girls..
After they had afternoon tea they had time for one more game before the parents were due back to pick up the girls. This time, they all got some streamer tails, and the object of the last game was to steal everyone eles's tail. If you were the last one with a tail you won the game...
It didn't take long for the couple of hours to go, Most of the mums were back by 3.30pm to 4pm but then most stayed for a cuppa as well so the party really went all afternoon. After the organised games were finished, the girls played in the bedroom with Willow with her new birthday presents.
Both children were had it by bedtime...
We still had another big day of celebrations again the following day on her actual birthday with a family BBQ with all the family including all of Colin's family as well at Dan and Chloe's. It was a lovely afternoon of catching up, and Willow was very spoilt again.
