A SPECIAL CHRISTMAS FOR BEVAN...
This year we decided to spoil our friend Bevan...
He is one of the most selfless people we know, always trying to help people and never expecting anything in return. He has looked after our home now for years whenever we are away and never allows us to pay him anything. In fact when we leave money for him, he will never take it...
Also, he has no family left, so has no one to really spoil him at all. There are a couple of families at church that he has a bit to do with, one of those families being us, so we are very privileged to be able to have him as part of our family...
Well a few weeks before Christmas, he was looking at e-scooters and telling Steve all about them. He was particularly interested in one in the JB HiFi Catalogue and had mentioned to us that he was saving for one....
Steve talked to me about blessing him by buying it for him and I couldn't agree more that it would be a wonderful gift for him...
We did some research and Steve dropped into JB HiFi in Rocky here but obviously they were not a big enough store to stock them, so it meant a phone call to Chloe to see if she could duck down to her nearest store that we had previously rung to get them to put one aside for us...
We were then able to pick it up when we went to Brisbane just before Christmas and bring it home...
I wrapped it and placed it beside our tree ( it was almost as tall as our tree) when we got home.
We were a little disappointed that we didn't see Bevan Christmas Eve, or Christmas Day but he arrived mid morning on Boxing Day...
The first thing he noticed when he arrived at our place was the rather large present standing next to the Christmas Tree, and his first comment was "Wow what a big present, someone's got spoilt this Christmas". We told him to go read the card and see who it was for...
He walked over and had a look and when he saw his name on it, he was gobsmacked and all he could say was WOW, oh WOW, oh WOW...
Steve had to help him move it out into the middle of the room... and then he started to unwrap it..
Even whilst unwrapping it, all he could get out of his mouth was WOW, oh WOW, oh Wow.. That was pretty much all he could say all day...
Once we got it out and set it up, we realized that it would run better if Bevan had a mobile phone and uploaded the app. This was another thing he had been talking about getting, and Steve and I had both talked about giving Bevan my old iPhone, as much for safety as anything, because he often road his bike home late at night and we wanted him to be able to ring for help if he needed to...
Well he was like a kid in a candy store when we offered him my old phone as well. He was speechless and the WOWs started all over again...
It actually bought tears to both Steve's and my eyes, as Bevan never normally shows emotions. We had never seen him excited like this...
He and Steve headed down to the local Woolies store down the road to pick up a Sim Card and then we had to help him set up the phone... That took a bit of work, so we had to organise and Apple id for him, set up email addresses and get him organised. This took most of the afternoon...
Finally it was all set up and then it was time to take the scooter out and test ride it...
Steve lent him his bike helmet so that he could ride it and then ride it home as he had just walked up to visit us....
I even got to have a ride on it...
Steve is really keen for us to get some too to take traveling with us. I was a little unsure on how I would got it with but it wasn't that hard to ride at all...
It really has been the best day. We know that this has been one of Bevan's best Christmas ever... His excitement has been the best gift for us also...
We have seen him scootering around the neighbourhood and he has the biggest grin on his face.. The best joy is when you reach out to others and bless them...
