A LIST OF JOBS FOR DAD

I have lots of posts from our couple of weeks away.  We decided to not do our trip to Cairns this September, we had a list of jobs to do for Sarah and Colin, and then had Sarah's baby shower at the end of the holidays, so thought we would spend the time with the kids in Brissie helping out.

Unfortunately because of circumstances beyond our control, we weren't able to do anywhere near the things we wanted to get done for them, but here is one that we did manage to complete.

When Sarah and Colin bought their new house, this is what their front door looked like.

The Front door with many cracks in it.
It definitely needed to be replaced,  it was badly faded with big cracks in it.  It obviously wasn't a solid timber door.

Big splits and cracks
Well Steve and Sarah visited Bunnings.  Now they visited there a few times and each time they were there for over a couple of hours.  Now all the doors were around the $200 mark, but they were all pretty plain.  Anything with glass in them seemed to be retailing for over $500.   Anyway she saw this one and really liked it and it was roughly around the $220-$230 mark..... pretty good for solid timber door.  Anyway they decided to buy it.

Steve came home and looked up the model number of the door on the internet to see if they had any instructions on how to hang it ( which they did) and he couldn't believe his eyes when he saw their recommended retail price.  It had the door retailing for $570.  Either Bunnings bought heaps and got a good price on them or else they had marked them wrong.  They were stoked...

Steve got to work on it

Painting it before hanging it

A bit fiddly
Looking good.
It took him a few days to get it hung.  I mean it needed four coats of paint,  holes to be drilled for the handles... but considering he has never done this before, he really did an awesome job and the finished door looks totally awesome.
Their new front door.

Because of the glass panels, Steve decided that it really need a good solid dead lock on the door, so he found this fancy one that looked really good.  Took a little work to get it set into the door, but it does look impressive, and it will definitely keep their home a little more secure.

New front door handle
He managed to get lots of other small jobs done for them too, latches on cupboard doors, grouting in the bathroom, new towel racks, and there are still quite a few more that need to be done next time we visit.

One thing he didn't have to do was this.
Their new back fence
Originally when they bought the house, the back fence needed quite a bit of work, and Sarah wanted Steve to fix it.  Well the day after they moved in, their back neighbour came and let them know that they were erecting a new back fence.  Great news for us..... one less job to do.

Will be back in the next couple of days to show some of the changes they have made since buying the house.  It is looking really good and they are so happy in there.
