WE'RE LIVING ON AN ISLAND

The Fitzroy River is due to peak tonight at 8.7metres.
The town is now cut off to the south and the west....
And in South Rocky it feels like we are living on an island....
There is  water in every direction you look,
As far as the eyes can see...

This afternoon we went for a drive and I took some photos....
The damage bill to Queensland this week is even greater than that of 2010-2011.
We still haven't recovered from the Natural Disaster...
I really do wonder how we will go as a State this time...
Photos from around town today....

The main Bruce Highway into Rockhampton
I cannot believe that this normally very busy highway did not have a car on it this afternoon when we drove back into town....
We knew the river was due to peak later this evening so this afternoon we went for a little drive around out neighbourhood to see where the water was laying...
This is the first major flood that we have been home in Rocky for since the 1980s... The last two major floods that cut us off from the rest of the country were in 1991 and 2011 and for both of these we were away on holidays....
Blackall Street..
One of the streets leading onto Gladstone Road.....
Around our neighbourhood
Heading into town...
Then we have the aerial shots of the entrance to our beautiful city.
The Rockhampton Roundabout...
Aerial shot of the entrance into Rockhampton... If you look closely you can see the roundabout and everything else is covered in water....
Hastings Deering is situated out near the main highway...
Some aerial shots of the water surround it...
You can see the group of buildings to the left - that is Hastings...
Close up of Hastings.... no is going to work there in a hurry.
Our airport is under water.....
The Rockhampton Airport... last plane left town last night...
The airport runway....
Rockhampton airport
It will be at least the middle of next week before any aircraft get to fly in...
Once the waters go down, they need to check to see if there is any damage to the runway....
An aerial shot ofthe river....
The river still hasn't peaked... It is expected to get to 8.7m or 8.8metres later tonight...
This afternoon we took these photos on the ground..
River car parks

Riverbank Park

Riverview Park
The Fitzroy River Bridge....
The Neville Hewitt Bridge
We then went for a drive around to check the kids playground along the river bank..
Here is the aerial view of it.... You can see the Rockhampton pool and the park is the other side of there....
The kids park has water all around...

You can see the water all around the play equipment....
Playgroud
Whilst we were there we noticed that they were pumping the water out of the playground....
Pumping the water out of the playground.
It seemed a strange thing to do because they were pumping it out of the playground and straight back into the river.... the river is still rising...
Our racetrack is under water....
Cakkaghan Park
The netball courts are under water....
You can just see the hoops .....
An aerial view of Depot Hill

A shot of the river and bridges from the air.....
City of Rockhampton...
Hopefully the water will go down pretty fast and we can all get back to normal...
