GREAT KEPPEL ISLAND TO CELEBRATE BIRTHDAYS

It's been a great long weekend...
We kind of did the Australia Day Celebration when we all headed to Great Keppel Island for the day to celebrate three birthdays...

Chloe's boyfriend Dan's parents have both celebrated birthdays this week with his Mum's birthday actually on the Saturday we headed to Great Keppel Island.  Steve's birthday is this week, so it was a day of celebrations....

Waiting to catch the Cat across to Great Keppel
We caught the early morning Cat across to Great Keppel Island.
Our boat...
We saw out on the top deck.  It was a stinking hot day so we figured that we would be better out where we could at least get a slight sea breeze if there was one...

It was actually lovely going out of the harbour... Very pretty looking back towards Roslyn Bay...
In some small way it reminded me of some of the photos that I have seen of the landscape in Thailand...

Loving this scenery...and we head across to the island...

It was a pretty quick run across to Great Keppel.  It is only about 22kms across to it from the main land so we were only on the water for about 20 minutes....
The cat pretty much lands you right onto the beach...
Landing us at Great Keppel Island...
It was stinking hot when we got there so we went walking along the beach looking for some shade to set up camp for the day....

Perfect weather, perfect day
The water was crystal clear and very refreshing... we found a nice grassy patch might near the beach under some lovely palm trees.
my view from laying on the beach...
The girls set up their beach umbrellas.

Setting up more shade...
Then it was time to hit the water

big thongs.....
Chloe and Dan went and hired a couple of paddle boards for a couple of hours...
They had a heap of fun with everyone having a go...
I think everyone managed to be able to stand on it and paddle...
Paddling on the paddle board...
Chloe having some fun on the paddle board.
Steve managed the paddle board really well and managed to stand on it pretty much straight away.
Straight up on the paddle board...
Steve enjoying the paddle board...
 While some paddled,  others swam...
Floating around on giant blow up thongs....
Dan was keen to have a go
Then Dan's Dad Sirio had his turn on the paddle board...

The Chloe had a go at standing up.  She was a little unsure to start with but really didn't have any trouble at all.

Fun at Great Keppel Island
Phil was also determined that he would be able to get up as well, even though he was the oldest of us there...
Phil on the paddleboar
 Such a perfect day.
We could believe how beautiful a day it was...
The previous two days it had poured with rain and we didn't really think that the weather would allow us to come, so we were very very thankful for such a beautiful day....

Heading up the beach after her swim...
Back on the board again.

The kids were at Sharon (Dan's Mum) to have a go on the paddle board.  Chloe told her she needed to do something daring on her birthday so she decided to give it a go...
With a little help of course...

Dillion joins them
Chloe hops on the other board with Steve

Dan decides to join Steve and Chloe on the board....

Sharon attempts to stand
She is up...
It seemed that everyone else had had a turn of getting up on the paddle board that all we needed to do was convince Danielle to get up and have a go..
It wasn't too hard to convince here...
Being so hot,  it didn't take much to get convincing to go into the water...
Danielle on the paddle board...
She was pretty happy with herself
Everyone really had a wonderful day.

They really did have a ton of fun on them,
Competitions with each other...

Dan had one last go with his little brother before it was time to return the paddle boats...

They played on the paddle boards till almost 1pm, then it was time to return them and head off and find some lunch somewhere...
It is unusual for Steve to go swimming never lone spend all morning in the water...
I think he will pay for it tomorrow though..

He spent almost all morning in the water=
I was surprised to see that the Cat remained on the island all day.
I thought it might have gone back to the mainland and then come back for us later in the afternoon...
The Cat stayed all day.

I must admit,  I enjoyed the beach, the fresh air and sunshine
A little snooze under the coconut palms
Sharon
It was quite a walk back to the restaurant...
We all decided to have lunch here and we were very pleasantly surprised...
Usually places like that on the island are really quite expensive but not here...
The meals were large and ranged in price from $12 to around $20 with an all you can eat buffet for $22 each...

Chloe shouted us lunch, and because it was Steve's birthday he was allowed to order the prawn special.  Bucket of Prawns..
Enjoying a feed of prawns
You can tell he is enjoying them...
 Chloe ordered a huge burger...

tucking into her chicken burger...
Dan had a buffet meal and he sure made the most of all the meat..
I think he went back a few times...
Dan enjoying his ribs..
My prawn and mango salad...
By the time we had lunch we only had an hour to spare before the boat was due to take us back..
Sharon and I stayed at the restaurant whilst the others walked back to get all the gear...
I am so thankful I didn't have to make the walk back as it was stinking hot and I would have been totally exhausted...

We had a wonderful day and I am so pleased we went...
We really should do things like this more often...
it was a great start to the weekend...
