WHO WOULD EXPECT A FLOOD LIKE THIS IN APRIL....

Who would have expected a flood like this one in April....
Massive amounts of water....
Devastation, as we had booked the Rowing Club for Chloe and Dan's wedding....
Unfortunately the beautiful grassed lawn area out the front of the Rowing Club leading down on to the river has been totally destroyed and we are unable to hold the ceremony there.

Big changes as we have to now hold it at the Botanical Gardens in Town...
Now the big job of letting everyone know the change in venue.....
Some of the photos of the massive amounts of water laying around Rockhampton after our recent floods...

From the Rowing club we drove around to the children's playground on the river bank.. and then onto the barrage.  The water was just rushing tough there,,,,
The whole park was covered in water...
The barrage on the Fitzroy River

The water was just rushing through here....

The picnic areas along the river bank were completely covered in water.

Water covers the picnic areas...
No picnics here for a while
The ANZAC memorial along the banks of the river

The Fitzroy River  and the Railway Bridge in Rocky

Children's playground on the river bank....
We took a drive down to check out the flood marker on the river bank to see how much it had to go before peaking...

Half a metre to go.... level taken two days before the river peaked
The river finally peaked at 8.95m..
Council carparks were under water...
We took a drive out along the highway 24 hours before it closed... The water was lapping the road...
So much water had come down in the past 24 hours.  At least 3/4 of a metre since we had last taken a drive out here....
Plenty of water around the round about into Town...
Yeppon coming into Rocky.

Once we came back into town, we decided to go for a drive up along the ridge to check out the water around the airport.  It felt like we were living on an island with water surrounding us each way we looked...
Looking out towards the airport....
Rockhampton airport under water...
surrounded by water
From here we drove back down to try and check out the Rowing club but the water was so high today we couldn't even get into the street that leads down to the clubhouse....
Next stop was the barrage and then back to drive along the river and check out the playround etc...
The water had certainly risen since we were last there a day earlier.  In fact it was rising quite quickly today and you could see the water creeping up even as we stood there...
Another look at the barrage

Off to the suburbs.  Depot Hill was pretty badly affected by the floods...
We went for 17 years without a flood and since 2008 we have had 6 0r 7..
Just keeping records of life in the tropics...
The weather patterns are similar to those of the early 80's... when we first came to live here....

It has been a rugged year in trying to keep up to date with life at our place....
Still need to catch up with our week away at Easter...
The kids arrive home from Denmark this weekend and we having a wedding here next week.
Life is crazy at our place at the moment,,,,
