DAY 156 – FISHING AND A DRIVE OUT TO PORT NEILL

Kathy managed to see the sunrise this morning… It was just beautiful, but she wasn’t organised enough to get photos of it….

Steve was really keen to spend the morning out fishing this morning at some of the beaches we explored yesterday…. I was happy to stay home….

There was free washing at the caravan park here so I decided to wash sheets and towels and the rest of our clothes whilst it wasn’t going to cost me.  It also gave me a chance to give the van a good clean out, vacuum and mop, and get some corn meat in the crock pot for dinner tonight…

It felt so good getting a lot of these little jobs done.  Meanwhile, Ian had also gone down to the jetty to have a fish, so Kathy got her washing done as well and then we sat and had a cuppa together…  It was good to just take a break and feel like we were on top of everything….
Steve got home around 2pm with half a dozen fish….so once they were cleaned and filleted we took off with Ian and Kathy to do the scenic drive along the coast line up to Port Neill where we stopped for afternoon tea…(even if it was a little later in the afternoon)

Our first stop off was at Lipson Cove…. This was a really pretty beach area with a cheap RV self contained camping area on $10 a night.  They had toilets there but no shower facilities or water…. Still the beach was beautiful and I am mentioning it here so that if we ever make our way back to this part of Australia, I would be happy to stay here for a week…

From Lipson Cove it was then onto Crowley Beach.  A little disappointed in this beach, no where near as beautiful as Lipson Cove, and no where to camp there.
Our last beach stop before getting to Port Neill was Mottled Cove at Point Blur.  This beach was just outside of Port Neill and it was also the area that the Lady Kinnaro Ship came aground and is now it’s final resting place.  Apparently, it is now a diving site on this part of the coast.

From here it was straight into Port Neill were we stopped at the foreshore park near the jetty to have a late afternoon tea…  It was a nice spot for such a small community and we took a walk out along the jetty before we headed home back along the main highway.

We will be a little sad to leave Tumby Bay tomorrow… There are still so many more fishing spots Steve is keen to explore here… all the more reason why we will have to come back down here in the near future.

At least when we got home tonight, we didn’t have to worry too much about dinner as we had it cooking in the slow cooker for most of the day.  We enjoyed a lovely corn meat dinner, good company and then it was home to our vans and packing ready to depart again in the morning…..
