CHRISTMAS CALENDAR CANDLES ARE A DANISH TRADITION WE WANTED TO BRING HOME TO AUSTRALIA....

The Dane's have some wonderful Christmas Traditions, that we wanted to bring back to Australia with us...  As Christmas is family time,  we wanted to feel close to our family in Denmark, so adding them to our Aussie Christmas Traditions just seems to bring them a little closer....

In Denmark, not only do they celebrate the countdown to Christmas with traditional Advent wreaths—the four candles in a wreath lit at church on each Sunday leading up to Christmas—but also with kalenderlys, Christmas calendar candles printed with the numbers 1 through 24 that are burned down a little bit each morning at breakfast. "In most families the candles are lit every day from December 1st as a soothing factor in a hectic period, quite often at the breakfast table, although when we were there, we lit it each evening....

Our Christmas Calendar Candle when we were in Denmark...
Their Christmas Eves.  We haven't been able to find these in Australia...
The beauty of the Danish Christmas Candles are they are set in a bet of fresh pine leaves which leave an amazing smell around the house which just adds to the Christmas hygge at that time of year...
I had to go searching for something similiar so ended up at K-Mart and found a $5 weath of pine leaves, so that became my foundation for my Christmas Candle... I bought the pine cones home from Denmark with me, but couldn't find any of the little elves, so most stores had sold out by the time we went looking for them...

We couldn't find any in Australia either,  but did find a Nutcracker, so this year we have used him as we came across Nutcrackers everywhere in Denmark when we were there last Christmas...  He reminds us of our time there and exploring all the Christmas markets...

Our Danish Christmas Calendar Candle

Well tonight being the first of December, we got to light our Candle... We will do this each day now until Christmas.. In a small way, it will be a small reminder of the wonderful time we spent with Pete, Maria and Theo in Denmark last Christmas....  We miss you guys...

Miss you Pete, Maria and Theo...
Still hasn't burnt down to the the number One....
We will miss all the other wonderful Danish Christmas Traditions... I think we will definitely have to visit there again for Christmas in the near future..
