DAY TWO OF THE CHILDREN'S VISIT.

This morning we decided to take the children to the Rockhampton Zoo.  We are so fortunate to live in a town where they have an amazing zoo and botanical gardens that are free to visit...
The children love coming to our zoo expecially to see Capri the baby Chimp, but they also love to see the big crocodile, and the koala's and otters and many other animals that live there....

We're at the Zoo.... Hooray says Max...
The first animals we headed to were the Chimps as Max was keen to see them first...

We were fortunate that we arrived there just before feeding time, so we were able to watch them feed the Chimps....
After we watched them for several minutes we went to check out the otters...
Checking out the Otters
These guys were in and out of the water and are really quite fast little swimmers...
From the otters, we moved onto checking out the birds which were housed next to them...
After checking out the birds,  Max was keen to go back and see the Chimps again...

After visiting the chimps for a second time, we then headed down to check out the other Australian animals, the kanagroos and emus, wombats and koala's
Max was fascinated by the "Lace Vomiter" as he calls them...
The kids then wanted to see the snakes,  these were a little harder to find as most were curled up in logs asleep and not at all active...
Trying to see if they can see the snakes...
Steve was trying to convince Max to come and have a close look at the Native Bees, and it didn't matter how much Steve tried to convince him that they don't sting,  he wasn't having a bar of it...
We made our way around to see the wombats and the koalas.  The kids were pretty excited to see the wombats out and walking around this morning... the last few times they had been, they had been curled up in their logs asleep.
 Love these furly little friends....
Time to play with the Koalas...

We also got to check out this big fella... He was one of Max's favourite and we love how he calls them "Lace Vomiters".. cracks us right up...

Willow and Max were keen to go see the big Croc before we headed home, but first we had to go past the dingoes..  they now have a proper home at the Zoo.
Whilst the kids love to see the crocs,  they are really not too keen to get close even with a big wire fence between us...
the little crocs..
The Colonial is MASSIVE.....
Both children wanted to check out the bird dome before we went home.  They were pretty impressed with the Cassowary.

By now the kids were getting hungry so it was time to head home for lunch... as we had plans for the afternoon again...

Ready to head home....
Before we headed home though the kids wanted to go down  and feed the turtles...  we hadn't been there for quite a long time so were very shocked at the state of the lagoon.  No water whatsoever,  overgrown with shrubs, bullrushes and weeds...  So sad.... we desperately need rain...
Yeppon Lagoon -  no water left just weeds...

Then it was time to head home... a quick lunch and a bit of a rest before we head out to Gracemere for my swim.  Whilst I was doing my aerobics lesson and my laps, Steve thought he would take the children to the playground and water park at Gracemere.....
After playing around in the water for half an hour or more, then they wanted to play on the playground....
It was a little hard to get them to leave the playground so Steve had to remind them that they could come and see my friend's puppies and they could come for a swim with me...  I had done my aerobics class and was now trying to get my swimming laps done.  Once the kids arrived, my swimming ended as the children wanted to play with me in the water...

It's been another great day with the children creating memories...  This kind of time is precious to us and it is limited as they are growing up way too quickly...We need to make the most of it..  By the time we left Jenny's it was after 5pm, so we needed to get the children home so that we could have them bathed and fed and in bed at a reasonable hour as we had more things planned for them tomorrow....
