DAY 15 - ON THE MOVE TO KINGAROY TODAY...

We are on the move again today...

As of today, we are travelling on our own... Ian and Kathy are heading east whilst we are heading slightly west.  We didn't have far to go today.  Kingaroy is only an hour down the road, so we weren't in a really hurry to get away, and there was no set departure time at the Bush Camp.

We all had a leisurely breakfast together and then boiled the kettle so that we could stop somewhere for morning tea.  It was around 10.30am before we finally got away.

We were going to stop at Murgeon for morning tea but it was only about 20 minutes down the road so in the end just drove through town.  Murgeon did surprise me though as I expected it to be a little like Eidsvold, but it actually was quite a pretty town and very neat and tidy.  It was also bigger than I remembered.

We pushed on to Wondai where we had a bit of a drive around town, but again we didn't stop.

Again, Wondai was a lovely little town.  so neat, clean and tidy.  We really should spend some time staying at these little places and exploring them more...

We were keen though today to get through to Kingaroy and set up there.  Our plan was to stay at the showgrounds.

The drive from Wondai to Kingaroy was really nice, only about a half hour drive and we drove along side the Wondai to Kingaroy South Burnett Rail Trail.  It is a mountain bike primary trail and can be riden in both directions,  It is a fairly easy ride and for those wanting to ride it can be completed within a couple of hours...

We arrived in Kingaroy just before lunch and headed to the showgrounds only to find that they were closed to camping due to the fact that the show was in town for the long weekend, and then on the Sunday evening they had speedway.  This meant that we had to rethink out options, so we headed for a park to have morning tea whilst we looked for alternate accommodation.

We found a kids playground which had picnic facilities not far from the showgrounds which had plenty of parking for our car and van, so ended up having our morning tea there...

We enjoyed our treats  that we had bought the previous day from the Goomeri Bakery and they tasted as good as they looked.

Whilst here we checked our Wiki Camps app, and made a call to the Discovery Caravan Park in Kingaroy to see if we could book a couple of nights accommodation.  They had vacancies so once we had finished out late morning tea we headed to the van park...

This park is lovely, we are set up right at the front of the park, next to the laundry and amenities block.  The very first thing I did when we arrived was to get a load of washing in the machines so that it was washing whilst we set up the van...

The laundry is is a good size, plenty of machines but the added bonus here was that they also had laundry trolleys.... A big bonus as it meant you weren't reaching to the ground to get your washing to hang up.  Pity more caravan parks don't think of this...  Such a small thing, but makes a huge difference...

Once we were all set up it was time for lunch...  We had a quick salad, and I then rang a friend whom I met in hospital a couple of years previously when we were having surgery together.  We have kept in touch since and had arranged to catch up when we were in town...

We were to go to her place for a catch up but her husband wasn't well, so instead she came to us. As we were heading to Brissie for Chloe's 30th we didn't want to put ourselves in a situation where we might get sick and take it back and infect the rest of the family.

Being a public holiday today, very little was open in Kingaroy anyway, so it was nice to just chill out at the van.

Annie arrived just after 2pm and spent the next few hours with us...

It was good to catch up and hear all her news...

It was close to 5pm before she left.  As we hadn't shopped since Mundubbera and even then it was only a quick shop, we needed to stop up on a few things, so once Annie had left, we decided to head into Kingaroy to see if we could find anywhere open.  Most of the big supermarkets were closed due to the public holidays but we did end up finding an IGA that was opened.  It was a large one and was well stocked so we were able to get all we needed...

It was close to 7.30pm by the time we got home...  We cooked dinner and then had a pretty chilled out night planning our day trip to Bunya Mountains for the following day...  Steve decided that he wanted to head towards Dalby and got up to the mountains via Maidenvale.

Our plan for tomorrow is to explore a little of Bunya Mountains.  It is 40 years since we have been there..
