RAINBOW BEACH - HERE WE COME....
One of the places on my bucket list to visit once we retired was Rainbow Beach. We had camped there several times before we were married but hadn't been back since...
So when Steve needed to get a cover made for his new boat, and the guy that makes them lived at Cooloola Coast, we thought this would be the perfect time to check out Rainbow Beach once again.
As we were towing the boat down this time, it meant that we couldn't take the caravan, so Steve rang a few caravan parks to see if they had cabins available.
In the end, the Discovery 4 park at Rainbow Beach had a deal going where if you booked and paid for three nights you got a extra night for free. In the end we decided to pay for six nights which gave us and additional two nights for free enabling us to stay for 8 nights.
Unfortunately just as we were ready to leave, and I went to strap up, my seat belt wouldn't click in. Worse timing as we had to have the boat at the Upholsterers at 8am the following morning and being Sunday nothing was open. Fortunately for us the Cruiser has bench seats in the front and I had to try and sit in the middle section of the seat which was not comfortable at all. We figured that we would have to go into Gympie and get it fixed once we got to the Cooloola Coast.
We got away around 9am and stopped at Mirriam Vale to pick up our favourite crab sandwiches which we popped in the fridge to eat when we got to Childers.. Whilst we were there Steve decided to have a good look at my seat belt and he discovered that there looked to be some paper or something caught in there so he got one of his little tools out and picked it out and Voila, my seat belt worked again. I was stoked... it meant comfort for the rest of the trip and Steve was stoked because it meant that we weren't going to miss days enjoying the coast because we would be in Gympie trying to get parts and get the seatbelt fixed.
It was well and truly lunch time by the time we got to Childers for our lunch break. Being the last day of school holidays, the traffic was chaotic on the road, so much and so many caravans. In fact we reckon that one in every three vehicles heading towards us were a car and van...
We stayed at the Discovery 4 Park which is about 4kms out of Rainbow Beach out at Carlos Point right near the boat ramp. We were booked into a budget cabin which was adequate for our stay. The only thing disappointing about it was the lack of a lounge to sit in. The park itself was lovely, lots of renovations happening..

Apparently the unit we were staying in hasn't long been renovated, so everything was clean and fresh..

this was our only lounge - wasn't really that comfortable - our only complaint with the cabin... |
On talking to our girls they expressed an interest in coming up to visit us at Rainbow Beach as it has been years since Colin and Sarah have been there and Chloe had never been there so we decided to book an extra cabin for the weekend for Sarah and Colin and the children and then Chloe and her puppy Mia were happy to come in with us..

It was almost sunset by the time we had finished unpacking. Because we were staying for the week, we completely unpacked out suitcase hanging clothes and putting the rest in drawers. This at least allowed us to keep the cabin a bit tidier and therefore not a lot of stuff laying around or us tripping over suitcases...
Once we were unpacked we went for a walk to explore the grounds and this led us to the water at Carlos Point. Steve was very happy to check out the boat ramp and we were able to watch the end of the sunset. It was quite lovely as the sun set over the water.
We decided there and then that we would make the effort to come and watch the sunset every chance we got this week whilst we stayed here.
It feels so good to be away on holidays yet again. Have I mentioned before just how much we are loving the retired life...
