A HIKE UP TO DOUBLE HEADS.
Steve had to take the boat down to the Capricorn Coast for it's first service. I already was going down to the coast for a sewing day with the girls, so Steve was going to be at a bit of a loose end for a couple of hours whilst the boat was being serviced.
We have been saying that we need to do a lot more exercise so he decided to do the Double Head Track walk...
The walk is located in the Double Head section of Capricorn Coast National Park and is sometimes called the Fan Rock Track or Roslyn Bay Lookout track by the Locals.
It is a lovely walk that adjoins Rosslyn Bay Harbour and
protects vine thicket with overhanging fig trees, windswept and stunted
scrub land and open tussock grassland with grasstrees. It has bird's
eye views over the harbour and a close-up of Fan Rock - the core of an
old volcano are two of the must see features of this section of the
National Park.
This walk is an uphill walk from the carpark to a viewing platform at the top with a side track along the way to a lookout to Fan Rock. It is well maintained and easy to follow. It is also considered a moderate grade walk because of the steepness of the hike and normally would take about 40 minutes to complete.
The track is well paved with lots of stairs. |
There are two lookouts, the first looking back to Bluff Point and the other North over the Marina. The views are spectacular and it is worth spending the 15 minutes to take a look. it's only a distance of 700m return..
At the lookout which looks towards Bluff Point, there is an incredible fan rock which was formed when the lava cooled. A very interesting and unusual volcanic rock formation.
The bush you walk through is lovely. The second lookout looks over the Marina towards Yeppoon and the views are wonderful.
There is also a short 200m return walk over to Pebble Beach from here but today he just took in the view as he needed to get back to Emu Park to have lunch with us...
