A SWIM AT MUDJIMBA BEACH...

My girlfriend Barb is also helping out her son and daughter-in-law by looking after their children for the couple of extra weeks of school holidays, and as our grandchildren are very similiar in age, we decided to team up and take the kids swimming and for a play at Mudjimba Beach.

We chose Mudjimba Beach, as we still wanted to stay away from the crowds.  Although we had had our Covid booster, it was less than a week previous, and we were told that it would be a good two weeks before it would fully take effect, so we were still trying to avoid being around too many people...

The kids all ready for a surf and swim...

Mudjimba Beach is an unspoiled coastal haven just a stones throw from Maroochydore.   The endless, golden sands of this beach are bounded by the Maroochy River and the Pacific Ocean. Hidden away in the backstreets has given this glorious beach hidden gem status and made it the perfect spot to get away from the crowds whilst at the same time, enjoying the kilometres of fine sand beaches.  The beach is  patrolled daily so is a pretty safe place to swim as log as you swim between the flags near Mudjimba Surf Clubs.

enjoying riding in the wave...

It was really great to watch Max in the water this year.  A year ago, we couldn't get him in the water and past the first breaking wave, but this year it was hard keeping him in close to shore as he wanted to be out with the girls...  It is great to see that his confidence has improved so much though...

This coast unlike the Capricorn Coast isn't scattered with islands at all, so when we arrived at Mudjimba Beach and spied the island out from the coast there was a little nostalgia and it did make me miss our beautiful Capricorn Coast... Old Woman Island (also referred to as Mudjimba Island) is located about one kilometre off the coast of Mudjimba and can be clearly seen for miles up and down the coastline.

Old Woman Island..

Aboriginal legends abound about the Island. One has it, the Island was the result of an epic battle between two men, Coolum and Ninderry, and a woman called Maroochy. The end result was that Coolum's head was knocked off and ended up in the ocean, creating Mudjimba Island. Mount Coolum, seven kilometers to the north, is now flat topped due to the lack of a head!

There are various other legends involving Aboriginal women living on the island until old age, hence the "Old Woman" name.

The Beach is protected 365 days of the year...

The kids had a marvellous time out in the water, but we really had to keep an eye on them as they frequently drifted down the beach.  It was often hard to get their attention to get them to move back up the beach as they were having so much fun and weren't overly looking up at us...
We were pretty impressed with the girls as they got pretty good at catching the waves and riding them right in and up onto the beach...
They had a good couple of hours out in the water before we were able to call them back in.  I think the only way we got them back in was to do with getting hungry little bellies..
My very good friend Barb...

Enjoying our beautiful Queensland beaches..

We headed back up to the playground area to find a picnic table under cover.  The children had been out in the sun all morning and I am sure that their sunscreen was wearing off.  Both Barb and I had bought morning tea so the children shared their treats...

It was lunch time by the time we headed home... The children were all a little tired so I told them that they would need a rest in the afternoon.  That news did not sit well with Max and he complained half the way home about not needing a rest.  I knew he was tired, as he was having quite a few melt downs.

After lunch, Barb sent me a photo of her two.  Aston had fallen asleep in the lounge he was so exhausted.  Whilst my pair didn't fall asleep, they spent an hour on the bed with a book each, and just quietly read.

Max was quite funny, when they got home I got them to have a shower to wash all the salt off them, and I also wanted Willow to wash her hair.  Because Max had a shower, he got dressed into his PJs.  I told him that he could put play clothes back on, but he preferred to wear his PJ's if he had to have a rest.  He is such a funny kid.  He really cracks us both us...

Tomorrow we plan to catch up with John and Barb and the children again.  We are off to explore the Treehouse playground down at Aura near Caloundra...
