Lots to Catch up on.
Life on the road doesn't give you much time to keep up with things like blogs etc. We are finding that with Day Light Savings, our nights aren't very long. By the time we get home on dark, cook dinner, have showers etc, it is almost bed time. If we do get on the computer it then means a very late night.
Just some photo shares from the last week.
METUNG
This was a gorgeous little fishing village we just happened to stumble accross on our Sunday afternoon drive. One of the treasures you find when you least expect it. Just a beautiful spot, you drive in around the lake, and there is a lovely boardwalk.
Also saw lots of black swans here with their baby signets. Of course we had to photograph them. We were most impressed.
BUCHAN CAVES
The one thing Steve wanted to do at Lakes Entrance was to go fishing. Unfortunately the weather was lousy, not fishing weather at all, so on the Monday we decided to go for a drive to Buchan and go through the Caves there
The Drive into Buchan was really pretty, We booked to do the tour of the Royal Cave. It was due to start at 1pm, so we had a quick lunch first. where I also tried to catch up on my travel diary. Bet hard trying to fit it all in at times, especially with the amount of photos we have been taking
We went through the Royal Cave first - this was pretty impressive, and quick easy to walk through. Lots and lots of stairs though, and quite a walk back to the car. We enjoyed it so much that we thought we would go book and go through the Fairy Caves also.
Whilst the Fairy Caves were good, I think the pick would have been the Royal Caves. The Fairy Caves are really not made for Tall people, there were quite a lot of places where you had to crouch right down. Not good for the back.
LAKE TYERS
On our way back into Lakes Entrance, we decided to take a little detour and check out Lake Tyers. This is no where near as developed as Lakes Entrance, but the fishing is supposed to be pretty good. My favourite spot through would still have to be Metung.
We left Lakes Entrance, last Tuesday to head to Foster. Had a good trip, and found another treasure along the way. It was not even signed on the map we were using but we came accross another lovely little town called Toora
TOORA
Toora is pretty much set on the coast as part of Wilson's Promotory. Absolutely beautiful views from a lookout just behind the town.
The views were majestic, and there was a lovely little picnic table up there so we decided to have lunch here and enjoy the view. There were lovely green rolling hills on one side, dotted with cattle and sheep grazing and then out to the front were beautiful view of the ocean. We could have stayed here all afternoon.
This is also were we saw the Wind Farm. Steve was fascinated by the big wind turbines, and we went for a drive up to check them out.
The country was so green which just made it all look so much more spectactular. We were told it was the best time to see it as they have had record rain this year. Appartently it was all pretty dry this time last year, so I am so thankful that we are on this holiday when eveything is looking so good.
FOSTER
We arrived at Foster mid afternoon and set up. After talking to the park owners, they told us about some great Falls just outside of Toora, in fact just a few kilometres further on from where we had our picnic lunch. We decided to head back there to explore them. Because of all the rain they'd had recently, we were told the falls were really quite spectactular at the moment, so after setting up we headed back towards Toora and this is what we saw.
They were amazing. There is no way you would have expected to see such a beautiful gorge and waterfall. There were rolling green hills everywhere, in fact just before the falls, the green hills came right down to the Agnes River banks. and then suddenly they drop over the edge of this very deep rocky gorge. It really was magnificent to see.
The above pictures was pretty typical of the countryside around this area. It almost looked like the hills had been mowed. We just don't see countryside like this in Qld. Well not up where we live anyway. It was all just so peaceful.
We headed back to town and got home at 6.45pm which didn't leave us much time to get ready. We had arranged to go out to dinner with this lovely Scrap of Faith lady and her husband. We had never met in real life before. We had the most enjoyable evening with them, it felt like we had known them for years, and the time went all too quickly. We were the last left in the Restaurant at the end of the night.
The next day we took off for Melbourne but once again along the scenic route, down via Inverlock and Wonthaggi. Again beautiful beautiful countryside. Steve just loved the white flowering shrubs which lined both sides of the road.
A few people we have met have told us that the white flowering shrubs are actually out of control and are more of a weed than anything, but we think it all looks very spectactular and love it.
We have been in Melbourne now for 5 days so I have heaps to share of our time here, but not tonight. It is getting late and we need an early night as tomorrow we have to get ready and all packed up as the adventure accross Bass Strait takes place tomorrow night. I am a little nervous about how I will fare. Have been to the chemist today to buy some travel sickness tablets. I hadn't given it much throught until we were in Lakes Entrance and saw how choppy the seas where and how strong the winds and gales where. The thought of 12 hours of sea sickness does not appeal to me at all. I have been known to get sick going accross to Keppel Island on a calm day.
Will be back in a few days with another photo share.
