So much has happened - so many places visited
Think this will just be a photo share. Too much to share in the last couple of weeks so think I will just upload photos from the area. We are loving our time in Tassie. We thought six weeks would give us plenty of time to see the main things, but we realize you could have a year here and still not see it all. I could easily live here if it weren't for the cold. I must admit I do miss the Qld weather.
Another couple of days have pasted since I started this post. We just don't have enough hours in the days. Here are the photo shares from the past two weeks.
Left the North West Coast of Tassie around the 8th Nov heading towards Queenstown. Had three days there were we did the following.
Definately well worth doing this trip. Absolutely delightful day. Such beautiful scenery and so peaceful.
The next day it was raining so we went here
Zeehan has a great museum, and we didn't have nearly enough time here. We allowed ourselves half a day, but you obviously need a lot more. We were also fascinated that chooks just roam the streets here, this one came right up walking down the road, and right up to us at the car as we were packing away our picnic gear.
The next day the rain had cleared so we did this trip.
Defnately well worth doing too, although if you could only do one of the trips here, I would still recommend the Gordon River Cruise.
We left the next day for the long haul heading towards Hobart.
The roads were steep and winding, the hills outside of Queenstown were bare and barren, but still beautiful in their own way. It seems that on this highway, distances are not measured in kms but in how long it will take you to get there. The Derwent Bridge was only about 92kms, but the roads were so steep it would taken a bit longer, well it actually took us more than 1hr and 15 minutes, it took us an hour and 45 minutes.
However we did see the above beautiful scenery on this leg of the journey.
We did make it to the Derwent Bridge and we stopped and checked out this place.
We weren't allowed to take our cameras in, but this is one place you should visit if you are coming to Tassie. The artist Greg Duncan is halfway through a 10 year project of carving the story of the area out of Huon Pine. It is absolutely magnificent, well worth the visit in fact so much so that we both thought we would like to come back in five years time to see it completed.
We left here heading to Hobart, but when we came upon this place we just couldn't drive past without staying a night.
You pretty muc had to be self suffient, as there was no power, but there were hot and cold showers, free BBQs, Laundry facilities, and we were parked by the lovely Clyde River. The first afternoon we sat out there to have our cuppas, we saw platypus in the river. In fact we loved it so much here we stayed an extra night and we saw the platypus each morning and evening. The lovely thing about staying here was it only cost us $5 a night.
It was also very close to here
I am sure that Russell Falls must be the most photographed falls in Tasmania, but they were absolutely magnificent. Plenty of water flowing over. Well worth the walk to go see them. Whilst we were here we also went on this lovely walk.
The trees in Tassie are ginormous, never seen anything like it and they can grow to about 80 metres talk.
We left Mt. Field National Park and headed towards New Norfolk ( another really pretty spot - honestly the whole of Tasmania is beautiful) and just by chance we came across this place.
Steve was very impressed by the size of the fish here. We spent a lovely hour or so wandering around the beautiful gardens feeding the different sort of trout.
Just a couple more phots from things we saw along this drive.
We saw this amazing Scarecrow made out of Terra cotta pots - I made Steve stop the car so I could take a photo of him. I think he was a little embarassed as the owners were working in there garden, but he looked so cool. I have never seen anything like it.
Well we woke up the next morning to pouring rain, so we knew it was time to move on to Hobart. That is another story and one I will leave to the next post. Still sorting out the photos from our week there. The time is flying, we only have another two weeks left in this beautiful State,
Seems funny this year, normally by now I am counting down the weeks until the Christmas holidays, this year, I don't want them to come yet, because once they come it means my long service is almost over. It wouldn't be very hard to make this a way of life.
Until next time.....

Looks like you are having a wonderful time Karen, my MIL took me to Salmon Ponds the first Christnmas I shared with them.
I hear you on not seeing everything you want, I have been going down for 7 years now and there is still so much I want to do.
Next Christmas we want to take the children to Bruny Island to see the little penguins.
