Up in the Bay of Fires
We have had a lovely week chilling out on the East Coast of Tassie. This truely is a beautiful state. As its late, I will just leave you with a photo update of our week.
We left Mayfield Beach last Wednesday and headed to Bicheno - we came accross this most unusual bridge
we then drove onto Swansea, where we stopped and did a bit of shopping here. I posted mail whilst Steve ducked accross the road to Morris's General Store.
Steve was only ducking into the shop for a couple of things, and I was beginning to get a little worried when 40 minutes later he still had not arrived back at the car. When he finally came back, he couldn't stop talking about this shop. It was amazing, it had EVERYTHING. In fact ust visiting it and walking through there was actually a tourist attraction.
We continued on to hereOn Thursday we spent the day on the Freycinet Peninsula. The drive there was beautiful.
The roads were lined with flowering natives, and just driving you could smell the fragrance. It wasn't the best day to go exploring as it was quite wet. Very overcast and a light misty rain. Unfortunately because of the weather we missed seeing the stunning Wineglass Bar. I was a little disappointed as this was one place I really wanted to visit.
However, we did manage to do the walk around here
Magnificent views - definately well worth the walk even if we did get a bit wet. We also visited this Bay
Some beautiful rock formations at Honeymoon Bay, and there were wallabies everywhere.
On our way home we detoured and visited this beach
Got home later in the afternoon and had a bit of a cat nap before heading out to dinner
to celebrate my birthday.
We left the next morning to head up to here:
On Sunday when the weather was wet and overcast we went on a little journey to check out these couple of places.
The trip to Legerwood was very moving. Early in the 1900 a row of trees were planted to remember those to when to war from this community and lost their lives. In early 2000 these trees were deemed unsafe as they were dieing and needed to be cut down. Rather than get rid of them, the community raised money to have them made into these memorials to remember each of the men. There are plagues on each of the trees about each man.
Another really pretty little town we passed through on our Sunday afternoon drive. The purple flowers in the above photos were just growing wild, in gullies, and on the side of the road. They looked just beautiful.
Headed back here to fill up with water before heading back to our van.
Monday was such a gorgeous day here, we spent the whole day just chilling out on the beach.
This is such a gorgous place to be - and we wish we could spend another couple of weeks here just chilling on the beach.
Today we went for a little drive and visited these places.
Tonight we are packing - on the move again tomorrow. This time next week we will be on the boat back to the mainland. That leaves us with a feeling of sadness because this truely is a beautiful island and state. I am sure that if we spent 12 months here it would not be long enough.
We still have places to go and places to explore. It's late and I need to get to bed, we have an early start in the morning.
