DATE DAY... CHILLIN' TOGETHER...

After a crazy month, we were determined to have a pretty chilled out weekend, where we could just relax..
Whilst we were away, we did a windscreen in our Subbie and it was due to be replaced on Saturday morning.
I had also read about a nursery that has newly opened in Rocky having a plant sale on Saturday morning, so thought it might be good to go check it out whilst we waited for our car to have the windscreen fixed.

They had advertised the fact that they had "Jade Vines" for sale, and as I particularly love this flower I was keen to go and pick one up for our garden..

Beautiful flower of the Jade Vine
We had half an hour to kill from the time we delivered the car until the nursery opened so we decided to go and grab a hot chocolate with some toasted banana bread whilst we waited for the nursery to open...

It is the first time we have been out together like this since COVID started...
It was nice to have this time together.

From here we went to check out the nursery.  It was very popular and there was a great line of people lined up waiting to get into the nursery.   This nursery is very new, only been opened a few months and only opened on weekends.  They had a great variety of quite exotic  plants and we managed to buy one of their "Jade Vines"...   They ranged in price from $34 to $25... We managed to find a good one for $25 so I am hoping like crazy that it actually survives..

Our stash of plants we bought..
By the time we left the nursery, we still had a good 30-40 minutes before the car was due to be ready, so we decided to go for a little drive and explore some of the dirt roads through Depot Hill out near the river...

Whilst we have been along some of these roads in the past, it would be a good decade or more since we had been out this way.
The scenery was lovely....  there are crops and crops of wheat being grown out that way now and the whole countryside looked lovely and green..
lovely drive on a country road....
Views of our river
Whilst we were out driving we got a call from O'Briens to let us know that our car was ready for collection..

We had enjoyed our morning out so much that Steve was keen to go and visit Fitzroy Nursery and see if he could pick up another golden grevillea like the one we lost when the cyclone visited us five years previously.  We dropped the car back home and decided to take the Toyota to give it a good run as it hadn't been out on the road much lately.

Fitzroy Nurseries  was where we originally got most of the native Australian plants that are growing in our garden.  We were a little disappointed to find that they don't stuck as many Australian Natives anymore...

We did however find a lovely indoor fig tree plant which we purchased to put in one of the pot stands Steve had made for me for Christmas..

Our new Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree
There were quite  a few other lovely plants we could have been tempted to buy including these two below, but as we had already spent a bit of money this morning, we decided to see how the the plants we had already bought this morning would thrive and survive first before spending any more...
On our way out to the Nursery, we noticed a roadside sign advertising fresh eggs that could be purchased from a roadside stall.  As it was on the other side of the road, we decided that we would stop of our way back and pick up some fresh free range eggs...

They had an unusual letter box made from a microwave and the roadside stall was actually a sculpted house and buggy which housed an esky with not only eggs, but home made passionfruit butter as well..  we bought one of each,,
Now this is an unusual letterbox...
Stocked up with fresh eggs and passionfruit butter....
From here we headed out to visit a young couple from church.... They are moving out to Springsure soon to work on a property out there....  I also had a bag of shoes for Hannah that I would no longer wear so was happy to pass them onto a new home...
It was nice to catch up with these guys and we probably spent half an hour with them before heading home via the back roads out past Paradise Lagoon.

Whilst heading home, I decided that I should introduce Steve to my favourite nursery in Gracemere.. I love this place... Not only do they have an amazing variety of beautiful plants but they also have some serious eye candy there...  The only thing missing is a nice coffee shop where you could sit and enjoy some homemade scones, jam and cream with a good cup of tea or coffee..
Avondale Gardens Nursery - Gracemere
This is more than  a nursery...
They have lots of amazing home decor goodies for sale also...
The nursery is so colourful with lots of flowering orchids and pots of coloured flowers...
Amazing eye candy.

Wonderful displays in the shop area..
Although a plant pot, they are the sort of cup my husband would love to have his cup of tea out of....
As you walk through the shop and out into the Nursery you walk through an area that is covered with flowering orchids....
Beautiful flowering orchids...
We veered to the left and walked straight into the "Fairy House".  My grand daughter would love this... a whole room of everything to do with fairies..
An amazing display of all things fairies...
all things unicorn
This led us to another room which housed lots of decorative ideas for coastal homes...
Steve was particularly taken with the thong hooks... Great idea for his students to make, so we had a good look at them and took a few photos so he would know how to make them...
From here we were back out into the gardens.
Lots of wonderful plants and some great outdoor decorating ideas....
I particularly fell in love with these star coloured petunias.  They had pots of them all flowering and they looked amazing... Just wish the ones I had planted in my garden would flower as profusely as these ones are....
These black birds looked so real from a distance
Imagine a boot like this at your front door...
They had a really impressive cactus and succulent section in the nursery also.
So many different varieties and I knew that Steve would be impressed..

We also checked out another room which was divided into six different settings with different themes....  Love the colour... So much colour...
They had quite a selection of plant heads... They looked pretty good, although they were quite expensive...

As much as I loved these,  I am pretty sure I wouldn't want to part with the $100 or more to own one of them.
The amazing picture plants
By now we had reached the area where all the Australian Native plants were on display and Steve found the particular golden grevillea that he was looking for.  I also found a beautiful orange one that I liked the look of so photographed the name of it so that I can pick up one in the future...
One that I would love to get in the future.....
The last area we walked through had a farm theme, with lots of farm animal statues...
We had a lovely afternoon at the nursery... the only think that might have made it better would have been to be able to sit in a little cafe and have a cuppa.
We had our tree and it was time to check out and pay for it before heading home....
Queuing up to pay for our plants
We have had a wonderful day together...
It is not often we have days like this so when we do, they are days to be cherished...
