A LATHAM WORKING BEE...
The last few times, we have been in Bundy, Steve has spent quite a considerable amount of time trying to get his parents yard in order. It is beyond them now to care for it, and the weeds had overtaken the huge vegetable gardens in the back yard...
The last two visits we have made there, most of our efforts were involved in getting the front gardens weeded, so this time, he wanted to trim a few trees, and work on the back yard. He had spent all of Saturday afternoon in there on his own working, and we wanted to front up and get it finished on Monday before our Sarah arrived so that we could have a full day with her on Tuesday and enjoy our time with her and the children...
Steve was in full swing in the back garden when she arrived. Not long after she arrived, Shane and Sarah and the children arrived too and before long we were all working in the back yard.
It is amazing how much quicker it is with more hands, and what would have taken Steve another few days on his own was finished in an afternoon...
Max loves to collect the chook eggs when he comes |
While the adults worked rather hard, the children had a great time playing together under the house..
Considering they have only met each other once before they got on pretty well together... it does help that Shane and Sarah's youngest two are the same age as our grandchildren...
The older three got into the mud but Max could not handle that. He does not like being dirty at all. He waited until they got the hose out and were spraying each other... Much more to his liking....
Ben became the dirt ninja when his face was painted with the dirt... At first he wasn't too happy until we suggested that he could be a ninja and then it all seemed to appeal to him....
The drying off time then ended up turning into a towel flicking fight and then they all became animals. It really was good to see them interacting together and using their imaginations in their play...
We left Steve's parents to head down to the beach around 5pm. We were to meet Shane and Sarah and the children at the Basin and were going to order take aways for dinner. Before we headed there though we needed to drop back to the van for Sarah to unpack and for us to get the children's beds made up and for her to unpack so that when we did get back from dinner, all we had to do was give them a quick shower and pop them into bed.
It was probably closer to 6.30pm by the time we arrived at the Basin. Sarah Latham, had already got hold a a menu for one of the take away shops on the Esplanade, so we placed a phone order and were told that it would be half an hour before our pizza's would be ready.
Whilst we waited for the pizza's the kids had a walk on the beach at the Basin and then a play on the playground...
Whilst Steve and Sarah L went and collected our dinner, the rest of us set up one of the tables and rounded up all the kids so that we could have dinner once they arrived back..
We had ordered two pizzas and they were HUGE... We probably could have done with one. They were absolutely loaded with cheese, almost too much as it was a little too greasy for me, but they had heaps of filling on them so in that respect they were pretty good value... Because they were so big though, we ended up taking almost one of them home... We had ordered two pizza's amongst five of us, that gives you some idea how filling they were..
It was almost 8pm before we got back to the van, so it was a quick shower for the children and straight into bed.... They must have been pretty tired, because they were asleep not long after their heads hit the pillow...
