FLOODING ON THE SUNSHINE COAST
In the past few years, it seems that the Sunshine State should be renamed the Wet State. We have had torrential rain again this week, with flooding all the way down the coast.
Yesterday at work, several of us had to go out and check our cars and move them, because we had so much rain, that the drains just weren't handling all the water, and the water in the street next to the school was up almost to our knees. It didn't take long for it to run away after the rain stopped, but today it has been the Sunshine Coast's turn to get all the rain, and they have had something like 8-12 inches of rain today, and this is the scene from Alexandra Headlands
This photo was taken on the main drive down along the beach. The drains could not hold the water and the streets and shops were all flooded. We stayed at Alex Heads at Christmas time. It is hard to imagine that this road we drove down daily was like this today.
The photo below is a photo of the floods on the road my Dad lives on.
Lots of motorists were stranded, with some having the water enter into their cars. It is hard to imagine that there was so much water laying around.
My Dad rang tonight to say that his house was sitting in the middle of a lake of water. He has never seen this much water down there in the 20+ years he has lived there. The local shopping centre down the road was closed due to flooding, and cars along the road he lives on were stranded with the water up to there mirrors. The water was all through his carport and we are kind of worried that it might have gone through our shed
Praying that it hasn't as it would be a big job to clean up, as we have all Pete's gear stored there whilst he is overseas. This is all we need at this time. It just seems one thing after another.
Edited
Well unfortunately the water did go through the shed a whole six inches of water so we have a massive clean up ahead of us. Dad had a couple of guys from his church come and help him clean up a lot of the wet boxes, but a lot of it now has to go to the dump. We will have the rest to clean up and sort out when we get down. No holidays this Easter for us.
They say there is more rain to come too.
Just a few more photos from the Sunny Coast.
Rocky is bracing for another flood at the end of next week too as all the water comes down the river.
Will be back soon to share some of Pete's adventures.
