A VISIT TO THE MOVIES & ART GALLERY

It has been a lovely relaxing week.... the days are going way too quickly though.
On Boxing Day, we have a family tradition of going to the movies together,  so we went here

Rockhampton Cinemas
to see this.....I was out numbered this year... not my choice but I have to admit it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be....
We saw it in 3D also
I have never been a fan of Lord of the Rings but the rest of my family have, and they had all be hanging out for this movie.  I still found it a little slow moving at the start.... could have also had something to do with the fact that I was tired...

But I would have to say it was a brilliant movie in terms of the cinematography.  Amazing in fact.  The scenery was also really good.... and it definitely ended leaving you in no doubt that there was more to come.... pity though we have to wait another year to see it.

Yesterday, we went on a family  excursion to the Rockhampton Art Gallery.  A few years ago I took Pete to a Ron Muich exhibition at the GOMA in Brisbane for his birthday.  Steve was always impressed by the photos I had taken and commented at the time that he wouldn't have minded seeing that exhibition.

Whilst I was away in Brissie he saw an article on the current exhibition at the Art Gallery here and thought it sounded like the one we had been to in Brisbane and thought it would make a nice family outing when Pete was home.

It was not the same artist, although his work is similar but on a much smaller scale...
Pilbeam Theatre
Our Art Gallery is situation right next to our lovely Pilbeam Theatre overlooking the Fitzroy River..
On a visit to our Art Gallery
When we first walked into the Gallery I spied this lovely chandelier... So funky,  I couldn't resist taking a photo of it.
Colours of the Rainbow...
The exhibition we really wanted to see was the Sam Jinks "Body in Time" exhibition...
His main works
The detail in this was pretty amazing... Every wrinkle, every hair...
A little about his self portrait...
I particularly liked this piece.....
New baby  surrounded by frogs....
This was so life like... even size wise.  and I guess having just come home from spending time with my new grand daughter,  this particular piece stood out to me.
The detail in this one was superb... particularly all the fine tatoos
The detail was quite amazing... eveyr little piece of stubble in his chin was put in place.
It definately was worth going to see... even more so considering that admission is free.

We also spent some time  wandering through the rest of the Gallery....
Admiring some local work....
A little about the atist and the poem written to go with the above
Admiring some of the artwork...
We then wandered upstairs to see the rest of the displays.  It was really interesting in that each of us really liked very different pieces of artwork.... Art truly is in the eyes of the beholder.....
I really loved the detail in this piece below...
Pride of place as you came up the stairs
I particularly like the artiist work below... I love all the detail and the very bright colours... This photo doesn't do it justice...
Some very detailed drawings....
It was a great morning out together......
Leaving the Art Gallery and the views of the river from the front of the Gallery
We headed off to lunch together from here... All of us are enjoying our relaxing days off.
When Pete comes home there are a few places he loves to visit...
One of those is lunch at the Brunswich....
Best meal and prices in town...
So he shouted us all lunch...

He is yet to make his visit to Cranston Pies....
There is no pie shop like it in Brissie.
Maybe it is just the memories of his childhood that calls him back there.

Still we are enjoying our leisurely days... sleep ins...
A little shopping
Nanna Naps
Catching up with friends...
Sight seeing...
Movies....
I love this week between Christmas and New Year.

It is about to come to an end though as we all start getting ready now for the next stage of the holidays...
We are packing to head to the Sunny Coast
Pete is getting ready to head back to Brisbane tomorrow
And Chloe is off on a road adventure for the next week.
First Stop is Canberra,  then heading across to Adelaide, then back to Mt. Gambier and then along the Great Ocean Road back to Melbourne.... all this in a week, because she flies home from Melbourne this time next week...
