ENJOYING THE BIRDS

Steve felt so good after a visit to the beach yesterday that we decided to go again this afternoon.
He seems to be able to breathe better in the sea air.
Eleonore our friend dropped in to visit just as we were ready to go, so she joined us for the afternoon...

The coast was beautiful...
Lovely sea breezes,
relaxing lay on the beachfront..
What more would you want...

Laying on the beachfront and enjoying the lovely colours of Summer...
Watching the birds...
We really enjoyed watching the birds, the way they soared and dived, and fought over food...
It was wonderfully relaxing just watching them, in fact their soaring and gliding was breathtakingly beautiful and made me so thankful that I could take the time out to just watch and enjoy..

Sea gulls doing what sea gulls do best...
Steve photographing them...
They were all around us...

Just some of the little things we take for granted... but are actually so beautiful...
Loved watching people feed them too and them fighting to see who got the feed...
So relaxing just enjoying the cool summer breeze and fresh air.
There are so many wonderful sites around us, and as I lay looking up I couldn't help but admire the line work of these trees....  I am sure this one must have been damaged by the cyclone because there was evidence of branches cut up, but it shapes and patterns are really beautiful.
Lines and patterns...
The things we take for granted...
We decided that we would go for a drive along the coast front to see check out the damage done to the coast by Cyclone Marcia.  We saw quite a few houses with tarps over their roofs...
Lots and lots of trees down,  the coast was really hard hit...
We ended up at Kemp Beach...
Oh my goodness the erosion that has taken place here is unbelievable...
Erosion at Kemp Beach
It was unbelievable the amount of foreshore that has just been washed down onto the beach.. Big concrete slabs that once help picnic tables.  We counted four of them on the beach.  Who knows where the picnic tables have ended up...

You can see one of the concrete slabs on the beach behind Steve
The fences have been washed away and there is very little land now between the amenities block and the beach.

Large drops to the beach...
Sand all washed away from around the foundations of the stairs onto the beach...
We were pretty shocked at the amount of damage...
We drove further along the beach to check out the causeway and the caravan park that we normally holiday at.  They have lost a lot of their trees and you can now see the beach from the park... Normally there is a lot of vegetation between the road and the actual beach, but not anymore....

After checking all of this out we headed back to Yeppoon, stopping in at the Fisherman's Co-op at Roslyn Bay where we bought some freshly caught prawns which we were going to eat for our dinner...
Once we got back to Yeppoon, Steve found a sheltered area for us to have our dinner, whilst Eleonore and I headed to the fish and chip shop to pick up some chips to go with our dinner and a drink...
Prawns and chips on the beach....
Kept the chips wapped in their paper to stop them going cold...
Good old Sars to drink also...
It was a nice simple dinner, but the perfect meal to have at the beach....
After we had dinner, we sat and lay on the grass again for a while and took a few photos...
Love spending time with this wonderful man
Blessed beyond measure
The three of us...
Enjoying life down on the coast.....
We decided to go for a walk to walk off our dinner and took Eleonore on the walk we had done the previous afternoon to show her some of the damage done further up the hill.  It was a lovely time to be working with the sun just setting and we enjoyed the beauitful sunset...
On our walk, we noticed this pallet washed up on the beach.. Steve decided to text the girls with a photo of it, as they have been stock piling wooden pallets to use in their furniture making.   More on that soon.
Old pallet found on the beach...
We headed back and had an New Zealand ice cream before packing up and heading home..
I really don't know why we don't do this more often.  It is a wonderfully relaxing way to spend an afternoon.   We really need to find time to unwind more this year...
