OUR EUROPEAN ADVENTURE - DAY 2 IN COPENHAGEN....

We are all suffering from jetlag today, especially the children which has made it worse for us adults as well....

We went to be Danish time around 9.30 - 10pm but we have been up since 2am this morning with Willow.  It was light again at 3am and we were all up and over it by 4am, it wasn't even worth trying to go back to bed at this time....  My back was still very sore...

Around 4.30am I decided to take the children for a walk around the block where Pete lives and to also visit Banana Park....  We were the only ones in the park at this time of the morning and Willow thought it was wonderful.  It was as if the whole park was her stage....  She climbed up onto the banana and sang her heart out.

Willow sang her heart out standing on the big yellow banana....
We had a good play in the playground also.

We had a good explore around the park and I took a heap of photos.....  We probably spent a good hour in the park and then continued around the block until we found our way home again.
We discovered some pretty flowers on our walk home...

Whilst walking home we came across a lot more graffiti some good, some not so good, and heaps of lovely flowers.... different to the sorts we would see at home.

I love that the walls are all so colourful...

Both inside and outside the park...
The buildings in Copenhagen were quite interesting and fascinating.  There are no yards.  They all live in apartments that are joined to each other all around the block, and often will have a small common courtyard in the middle of the buildings...  Seeing this helped to explain why parks are so important to the Danish people, and why they all use them...
This building fascinated me as the bricks were laid vertical rather than horizontal...
Some of the buildings were quite decorative also,

We arrived home around 5.45am.  Sarah joined us in the little park area or common area out the front of Pete and Maria's apartment, and we sat out here for the next couple of hours, enjoying a catch up wand our breakfast.  Chloe soon joined us which then allowed Steve and Maria to catch up on a bit more sleep.
We sat out here and caught up whilst we ate our breakfast....
We had a pretty chilled out morning at home.  Maria put Steve onto a couple of really good apps for his phone that would help us travel around Copenhagen.  The first app allowed us to map our journey and tell us which transport to take, whether it be walking, metro or the bus...  The second app allowed us to buy our tickets online so therefore we didn't have to queue up to pay for tickets.... All we needed to do was show our phone....

We took off just before lunch to go and explore Nyhavn.  We caught the bus and metro into town and as we were walking to Nyhavn, we came across McDonalds.... so that became our lunch stop....The food was slightly different to ours back home, although the big Mac was pretty much the same....

Even Max enjoyed Lunch with his Aunty Chloe

From here we made our way down to the harbour front at Nyhavn.  A very colourful place with lots and lots of people....  There were liots if eateries and lots of folk out enjoying the beautiful summer's day.

Max fell asleep
The cruise boats were always full....

As  Max had just fallen to sleep, we decided to go for a walk first and then come back and do the cruise a little later once he had woken up.   We walked over this little bridge and saw all tne locks locked on the bridge.  I took photos of course.

We also found a pretty impressive looking ice cream shop.  It looked amazing and was very busy so we figures that it must be good....  They served their ice cream with goof on top ( a sortof melted version of marshmallow, that was stickly sweet.  It was a little too sweet for me.

One of the things that seemed pretty strange to us, was listening to people talk and not being able to unerstand a word they were saying as they were all speaking in either danish or german.  The differenc in language caused us a few hairy moments on our ride into town... Sarah and Willow got separated from us before we worked out where we were to get off the bus.   With everything written in danish none of us could work out where we were to get off the bus before we got separated, so it was really quite stressful.  In the end all Steve could do was yell out her name and tell her to get off at the next stop.  The bus was so crowded we couldn't even see her...

Once Max woke we went and paid for our boat cruise around the harbour... We actually thought it was pretty reasonably priced as it only cost us 40Kroner each ($8 Australian for each adult and $3 for tWillow).  It was definitely good value as the cruise was just over an hour long.   We cruised out past the Performing Arts Centre, the Opera House, the Naval Base, past Castles, and where the cruise ships take off from to see the back side of the "Little Mermaid".  Considering that it is one of the main tourist attractions in Copenhagen, it really is quite insignificant and not right in the main harbour or town....

From out here we came back through the canals and under lots of the bridges around Copenhagen.  Most of the bridges were very low and also quite narrow and more often than not you were able to touch the top of them with your hand as you went under...

The cruise also took us past a lot of the historical landmarks in Copenhagen including Christianborg Palace, the Marble Bridge and Storm Bridge  We cruised past te Church of Our Saviour, Black Diamond Library, Fredericksborg Park, The Marble Church, Amailienborg Palace, and some other improtant buildings in town.  It really was a great tour to get an idea of your bearings around Copenhagen.

By the time we got back from our cruise it was after 4.30pm so we figured it was time to head home so that we could  at least aget the children fed, bathed and in bed by a reasonable hour...

One of the things I really love about people in Copenhagen is their love for the outdoors life.  They love beeing out on the water and this we were very much aware of as we moved around especially on the water.
Entertaining on the water.... lounge included... just chilling out...
Party in full swing on the river...
One of the other interesting things we saw today and which also got our attention was the Danish High School graduations.  In Denmark,  they dont have schoolies like we do in Australia....  Each class don their graduation caps,  and hire a bit truck where they drive around Copenhagen visiting each other's houses whilst drinking achohol and partying....   Our very first day we had a group of students pull up in front of Pete and Maria's and then today we saw quite a few of these vehicles and parties driving around town...

The other interesting thing we saw whilst in at Nyhavn was the local beer bus.... This was very interesting...

The Beer Bus
Getting home was a bit of an adventure also as we combated our way through the publis transport system.  It was much easier getting home and we were pretty much able to do it ourselves.  However we did have a slight mishap on our way home when Chloe who was holding Willow's hand missed the gutter on the bike way and went head over turkey taking Willow down with her.  Seeing as I was also holding Willow's hand, I went down on them alos.  It must of looked a real sight.  Two lovely Danishing people stopped to help us.  They were very concerned for us, and very kind and helped Steve help me up.

We had a pretty quite night at home.  We were all still pretty tired as we had obviously had a very early morning, and we were sitll getting over our jet lag, so we crawled into bed somewhere around 10pm.
