OUR EUROPEAN HOLIDAY - DAY 4 VISIT TO BAKKEN

Peter and Maria both had the day off work today.  Maria left early in the morning though as she had to attend the University to speak at the graduation of their Mentors...

We packed a picnic lunch as Peter had planned to take us all to the Deer Park just outside of Copenhagen for a picnic and he also wanted to take us to Bakken for the Day.  Bakken is the oldest theme park in the world being over 400 years old.  It was free to get into Bakken, all you had to do was pay for your rides, and even then you could buy a different sorts of tickets that would allow you to take different sorts or rides...

The drive to Bakken was really quite lovely.  Steve was a little nervous to start with as this was the first real drive he had done himself since arriving in Copenhagen...  Not only are you driving on the wrong side of the roads to what we are used to here in Australia, but  you also have not only traffic to watch out for but bikes also as they have right of way....  We had to be very conscious also of turning onto round abouts.  Initally Steve would always have someone in the car with him reminding him that it was a "sharp right and a long left" whenever we had to turn anywhere.

Peter took us the scenic route to Bakken along the water front.  Bakken was great,  we walked though Bakken to get to the Deer Park.  Willow was keen for sTeve to throw some eggs into a nest and win her a stuffed toy mouse.  He managed to get half way to winning it for her.... At least over here they will give you a card to let you know how many points you have won and you can come back later and add to that score...
Win me a mouse please Poppy

Whilst they were doing this I enjoyed just wondering around taking in all the colours and sights....  storing them in my head..... taking a few photos and just generally enjoying everything around me...  Pete went off and bought some tickets to some of the rides...  He took Willow for a ride on the Dodgem cars.  She absolutely loved them and she was just beaming as they drove around crashing into things...

Ends all too quickly
We enjoyed wandering around and seeing all the different rides. The whole place was just so colourful with flowers everywhere, colourful flags... It really is a very pretty place...

As it was nearly lunch time by now we worked out way through to the Deer Park where we found some lovely old trees that provided some wonderful shade and we had our picnic lunch...

Finding a nice spot to have a picnic

There were lots of ducks and geese around and they were very friendly and would come and eat right out of your hand.  Willow even managed to  hand feed some of the baby ducklings.

After lunch we went for a lovely liong walk through the forest.  Honestly you could have spent all day in the forest alone, it was so beautiful.  There were horse drawn carriage rides taking people for rides,  lovely thatched roofed cottages and little cafes.  It was really pretty and we would have love to spend more time here.  Honestly living in Denmark  for a year would not be long enought to see all the beautiful sights,  but Bakken was a calling.

Back in Bakken,  Willow caught sight of a boxing kangaroo ride, so so convinced Pete that she should really have a ride of it,  well one ride turned into three as she convinced Pete to go with her again and then her Mum.

Too busy having too much fun to wave to us.....

And of course Poppy had to have another go at wining that little toy stuffed mouse for her.  This time much to her delight he succeeded and she proudly carried that little mouse home.

Whilst Steve was winning the mouse for Willow,  Pete took me to show me the old Denmark display at Bakken.  Had fun with the camera here...

It was a lovely day, and everyone of us enjoyed it immensely,  but there are a few more photos to share of this magical place....

 Time to go home....
Someone's little legs were very tired....
Getting a piggy back ride back to the car with Uncle Pete
We needed to be back in Copenhagen by 5pm as Pete had to go and pick up a sound system for the wedding, and Dan was arriving at 7pm, so they had a couple of busy hours ahead of them....

The girls are loving the fact that you can ride bikes everywhere in Copenhagen, so Peter, Sarah and Chloe decided to ride into the city, leave their bkes and catch the Metro to the Airport to meet Dan.  Pete's old flat mates from Myrtle Street in Australia were also arriving about a half hour after Dan's flight arrived, so he was keen to meet their flight and show them to their hostel.  It was decided that Pete would bring Dan's luggage and he would catch the Metro back to the bikes with the girls and they would ride home, and Pete would catch public transport home  with Dan's luggage, after seeing his friends settled.

That worked well until Dan, Chloe and Sarah all got caught in a heavy downpour of rain on their way home.  They arrived home drenched...

Dan was pretty tired from his long flight, so we had a pretty chilled out night at home.  Pete and Maria made some fabulous pizza's for us all for dinner, and the rest of the evening was spent chatting, and catching up on the tales of Dan's time in Canada.
