MORE FAMILY TIME... A VISIT TO THE ZOO TO MEET CAPRI

On Sunday afternoon we headed up to the Botanical Gardens to visit the Zoo and meet the lastest addition to our Zoo, Baby Capri, the baby Chimp that was born at the Zoo earlier this year..
She sure is a huge draw card to Rocky at the moment and their were hundreds of folks up there to see her and watch the feeding time.

We are fortunate in Rocky to have the Rockhampton Zoo.  It is nestled withing the Botanic Gardens and adjacent to the Murray Lagoon in Rockhampton.   Visiting the zoo is a perfect day out.  There are over 60 species of native animals from across Australia and exotic animals from around the world.
One of the highlights of our zoo is the cheeky chimps and even more so now that our baby chimp has been added to the mix.  Capri took her first steps the day after we were there.  Max loved the koala and the Kangaroos.  you can get up close and personal with them and the emus.    They even have a couple of very large resident crocs at the zoo also.   The beauty of our zoo is that a visit here is free.  Sometimes I think we take it for granted and it is only when you hear tourists raving about how wonderful it is and how lucky we are to have such a facility in our town.  The zoo is also open every day of the year from 8am to 4.30pm daily.
The kids were captivated by baby Capri...
Of course we had plenty of photo opportunities to to have our photo taken with Baby Capri Statue at the gardens...

After spending a good half hour with the chips and watching them being fed, little Max was keen to move on and go and visit the Hop Hops (as he calls the Kangaroos) so we headed to their enclosure.  The emus and kangaroos come right up close and you are able to hand feed them.    Max loved them,  didn't want them to get too close on one hand but was mesmerized by them all the same.

On our way to the Kangaroo enclosure we came across the big monitor lizard.  Max was fascinated by it also, so we had a good look at it and of course grabbed a couple of photos.

Then it was straight into the emu and roo enclosure.

The birdlife was pretty prolific here also.
From here we headed off to see the Koalas...

 And then those lovable Koalas

By the time we had seen the Koalas we were starting to run out of time as the Zoo closes around 4.3opm, both children wanted to see the big Crocodiles so we headed off to visit them/
We had to hurry back towards our car as the Zoo was about to close but that didn't mean that our adventure up to the Gardens was over.
Kiosk Cafe - Botanical Gardens Rockhampton

We have a bit of a family tradition in that if you visit the Zoo you always finish off with a Strawberry Malted Milk up at the Kiosk Cafe under the beautiful big fig trees, so this is where we headed next for our treat.
You have to love this crazy pair

Even though it was getting later in the afternoon, the children was still keen for a play in the playground.  They were keener to do this than go down and feed the turtles in the lagoon, so it was to the playground we headed.
It was tea time by the time we got home.  It was a bad scramble to get them bathed and fed and into bed.  Steve was busy packing as he was leaving before day break to head up fishing with a mate for the week.  I am so glad we got to have two action packed days with the kids Popppy.  They love him to bits and would have been disappointed if he wasn't able to spend any time with them on their visit.

Need to get them to bed as we have an action packed day for them again tomorrow...
