WARWICK'S JUMPER AND JAZZ FESTIVAL...

This is another festival that is on my bucket list of places to visit once we retire.....

My girlfriend went this year.  She was heavily involved in the Knitfest in Maleny and as her sister in law (who is also a keen knitter and crocheter was visiting from England, they decided to take her to Warwick to see the Festival...
Her photos have certainly made it an event even higher on my list of things to do in the very near future...

A little about the Jumper and Jazz Festival....

Jumpers and Jazz in July began in 2004 inspired by the Warwick Art Gallery's idea to personalize the cold winter streets with textile art wrapped around our bare winter trees.

The quirky “tree jumper” project captured the imagination of the local community and the event , fourteen years on has grew into a ten day arts festival.   Lovely traditional textile crafts such as crochet, felting, dollmaking and weaving have prospered as a result of being applied in a popular contemporary context. Recycled materials are also used with wonderful creativity and cleverness.

Creating an artwork for one of the trees is a carefully planned labour of love for every participant and the entire exhibition of over 100 decorated trees is one of the main reasons people travel to the festival.

The truly remarkable thing is that most of the entries are created by local individuals, groups and businesses who don't consider themselves to be artists any other time of the year.

The tree jumper exhibition also attracts entries from professional artists alongside groups and individuals who have a love of yarn arts and enjoy being part of this unique community event.

Barb in her very colourful Jumper stands next to one of th displays
It must have been cold... Unusual to see John in long pants,,,,
Amazing amounts of time and effort go into making these brilliant displays...

There are certainly some very talented people around.. and the more I see photos of this event, the more I am keen to keep it on my bucket list and visit there one year.
