A big day
today. We were all up early, poor
Theodore had to be woken, as we needed to leave to be down at the church by 9am
for Theodore’s christening and dedication service…
|
I managed to get some early morning cuddles with Theo before leaving for the church |
|
all dressed ready to leave.. |
We all walked to church as it was only about three blocks from where they lived.... A lovely little church hidden in the blocks of apartments all around..
|
The church is loicated about three blocks from Pete and Marias |
Maria didn't dress Theo in his christening gown before we left home, as it was pretty cold outside and we had to walk the three blocks to the church. She wanted to rug him up in his little woollen suit... We thought it best to dress him once we got there and in the warmth of the building....

Dressing Theo in his christening gown that was worn by Maria and all of her sisters |
There were
about 40 people invited, and it was lovely to catch up with Maria’s uncles and
aunties and cousins who had made the drive down from Hjorring especially for
the service…

Our beautiful grandson |
The priest
was only new at the parish, and had only been their 10 days. This was his first posting so therefore was
his very first christening and dedication service. You could tell he was a little nervous. He was quite young with a young family of his
own and had originally come from Jutland, just like Maria…
The service
was lovely, even though we couldn’t understand a word of what was being
said… The service was fairly informal
and he made everyone feel at ease, there were a few funny, especially when he
went to pour water into the baptismal fount and found no water in the jug, as
it had already been poured in… At
another point he went to pray and then checked his notes and realized that he
had already done that so then said, nope we won’t do that… so he drew a few
giggles from the crowds…

The young priest gave Theo a little children's bible and a candle to acknowledge his dedication |

After the
service we had some family photos taken before retiring to the hall behind the
church where all the family and guests gathered for a luncheon together…
|
surrounded by lovely family and friends |
Pete and Maria have some lovely friends, and quite a few of them helped out by making various foods for the luncheon. All very delicious. It was a
lovely friendly gathering, and we got to meet a few of Pete’s expat friends,
especially Hector and his wife Lelia.
Hector is an Australian so was very happy to spend time talking to us. Maria’s brother Rune and his wife Heidi also
sat at our table along with Maria’s Dad.
We also had a good chat to Maria’s cousin Mikkel who asked us about what
we had planned to do around Copenhagen. I informed him that the couple of
things I really wanted to do was check out the Christmas markets and visit
Tivoli at night…
|
Lovely family photo of Pete, Maria and Theodore |
Well we found out that
Mikkel works and Tivoli, and the next thing we know he had offered to send us
passes for a visit to Tivoli to see all the Christmas decorations… so kind and
generous of him..
|
Maria's cousin Mikkel was so kind to us |
Just before everyone started to leave, Pete and Maria opened the many baby gifts they had been blessed with...
|
opening the gifts |
It was close
to 4pm by the time everyone at left.
Again with so many helping hands, the clean up didn’t take too
long. There was quite a bit of food left
over, so that became dinner that night, and leftovers the following day…
Maria’s
sister’s and Mum joined us for dinner and we all chilled out by watching a
Christmas movie altogether after dinner…
It was a lovely way to end a rather busy day….
