DAY 21– TUESDAY 25TH DECEMBER, 2018…
As it was after midnight by the time
we got to bed, everyone slept in this morning… Nothing like back home when
everyone is up super early to find out if gifts have been left in their Santa
sacks…
Christmas Day in Denmark is a very low
key and relaxing day and is called the first day of Christmas. Maria’s brother and sister in law and their
son Max was arriving today and were coming for lunch…
Although the main Christmas celebrations here
happen on Christmas Eve, they still do a traditional Christmas lunch of rye bread, breadrolls, jars of pickled
herring, smoked salmon, liverpate with bacon and mushrooms, and
deep-fried plaice filet with remoulade, and this was all
flavoured with everything from curry sauce, an asparagus sauce to
cinnamon, washed down with snaps and their special Christmas beer, Tuborg Julebryg.
Dinner was set for 1pm just after Rune
and Heidi arrived and once again it was another delightful family meal, of good
food, good company and lots of chatting and laught
Christmas Day lunch with Maria's brother Rune & wife Heidi and Max |

food, good company and lots of chatting and laughter….
Directly after lunch we all played the
traditional Danish game of Pakkeleg. We
have been playing this back home since Pete and Maria and her sisters
introduced it to us during their visit for Christmas in 2015.
We had a great afternoon, passing
presents around the table, and chasing after presents from others playing. It really is a fun way to get everyone
involved and always ensures that there is plenty of hygge (a feeling of
welcome, warmth and coziness)
We needed to play this in the
afternoon, as both Dudi and Hanna were heading out Christmas night to Hjorring
to catch up with all their old school friends….
Playing Pakkaleg |
We enjoyed another magnificent sunset
this evening, after another perfect sunny day in Jutland… Dinner tonight was
left overs from all the Christmas food that was in the house…
Another stunning sunset this evening... |
For those of us still left at home, we
played games, a new game called “Exploding Kittens” which Rune and Heidi had
received for Christmas… It was a great game and one which I am keen to get to
bring home with us. Again there were
quite a few laughs and we were keen to play it again the following morning when
all the girls were home….
Board games around the dining room table |
Well Christmas for 2018 is done and
dusted…. Only another 364 days until we celebrate Christmas again… This has
certainly been a Christmas we will remember,
a very special Christmas at a very special place celebrated with very
special people, and probably the last one that will be held up here at the
farm…..
