DAY 22– WEDNESDAY 26TH DECEMBER, 2018…
Denmark
doesn’t have a Boxing Day, they still have a public holiday the day after Christmas,
but it is actually called the second day of Christmas….
Again,
we were all a little tired, so most of us slept in this morning. Young Max was up early, so Heidi kept him
entertained playing with some of his Christmas presents. He received some “Foam Clay” for Christmas,
something I had not seen or heard of before, but it was great, and he made some
great little toys using it. It is not
sticky or messy but easy to work with.
Both Steve and I were impressed with it and Max’s creative efforts and
thought it would be a great gift to bring back to Australia for Willow…
Rune
was not feeling very well this morning, he had not had a good night sleep and
woke with a terrible migraine. The girls
hadn’t arrived home until almost morning, so they were still fast asleep, and
Maria and Pete were making the most of a sleep in whilst Theodore slept.
Elsie
Marie was also up when we walked down, so we enjoyed a morning cuppa with both
Heidi and Elsie Marie.
Everyone
had surfaced by mid-morning, so we all played another game of “Exploding
Kittens” with Hanna and Dudi this time also.
Just before lunch we all decided to head down to Lonstrup for a walk
along the beach.

The weather is a bit different here to a typical Boxing Day at the Beach in Australia |
Lonstrup
is a little holiday village on the coast of Skagerrak. It was an old fishing village with a
population of about 540 and is known for its constantly changing coastline,
caused by shifting sands and erosion.
It
mainly consists of one long road Strandvejen (Beach Way), which meanders a few
kilometres through the steep cliffs. The
hills around the north of Lonstrup are dotted with summer cottages which were
built around the 1920. This area around
Lonstrup is very popular in summer and attracts almost 10,000 tourists a
week.
Where
the folks from Lonstrup once made their living from fishing, these days it is
better known for its many crafts studios and art galleries. There are glass
blowers, potteries, jewelers, amber crafts, painters and sculptors who live
and work in Lønstrup.Today there were many people enjoying walks along the cliff tops and beaches. It all seemed a little strange to us, because the weather was cold and the wind was bitter. We are not used to being on a beach so rugged up. Still it was nice to all go as a family and see this lovely little village during winter… Previously we had visited it in summer and it was freezing cold then. I can’t even begin to imagine swimming in the ocean in this part of the world.
