DAY 26– SUNDAY 30TH DECEMBER, 2018…

The weather was a little better when we woke this morning… We actually got to see the sun.  We have to return the car this evening, so Steve and I decided to take a drive up along the coast to visit the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.  The museum is a little over 35kms north of Copenhagen but we really only had about three hours as we had to be back before 4pm to pick up Pete, Maria and Theodore as we were all being dropped off at Rune and Heidi’s place (Maria’s brother and sister-in-law) as we were invited to have dinner with them that evening…
We really didn’t get to go into the Museum as we would have only had half an hour to look inside and figured that we would save that visit to our next trip to Denmark.

However, the drive up to Humlebaek where Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is located was really a nice way to spend the afternoon.  We decided to take the scenic route and drive up along the coast which was slightly longer kilometre wise, but by going along this route, we constantly have ocean views.    A lot of the homes along this drive were really quite stunning and obviously were owned by the very wealthy.
Last time we were in Denmark we travelled some of this route when we came home from our day out berry picking, and this time it was a totally different.  Last time we drove along here in Summer with all the trees with leaves, and wildflowers growing in the woods.  This time, the trees were all bare and looked like spindly sticks growing tall towards the sky.  Still very beautiful in it’s own way.

We stopped a few times, to check out the view and take some photos, and when we did get to the Museum, we did go for a little walk around the grounds…  It will definitely be a place we will go back to visit when we next return to Denmark.
Louisiana is the leading art museum in Denmark and also the most visited. It is an international museum and gallery which offers an amazing collection of modern and contemporary art, alongside some breathtaking views of the Øresund Strait, which separates Denmark from Sweden

There were people out walking the footpaths everywhere.  So good to see

Knud W. Jensen bought a large country house on the coast away from the bustle of the city with the idea of converting it into a cultural centre for Danish landscape, architecture and art.
Since then the museum has come a long way, and now hosts a huge international collection of modern classics. It also hosts exhibitions featuring big-name artists like Jackson Pollock, David Hockney and Olafur Eliasson.
The Museum has nothing to do with the US state with the same name, but rather it inherited the name of the original estate because the villa’s first owner had three wives – all named Louise.
The grounds around the museum contain a landscaped sculpture garden.  It consists of a plateau and ground that slopes towards the Øresund Strait and is dominated by huge, ancient specimen trees and sweeping vistas of the sea.

Before heading back to Copenhagen, we also took a little walk about Humlebaek and took some photos of some of the lovely buildings in this little town.  We were running out of time so rather than take the scenic route home, we headed back to Copenhagen along the motorway.  We were home with about 10 minutes to spare…

We had about an hour until the car had to be returned to the rental office at the airport.  So we just collected the others, and then Maria, Theodore and I were dropped off at Rune and Heidi’s whilst they found a service station, refueled the car and delivered it back to the airport…

Only Heidi was home when we got there, Rune had taken their son Max and a friend to Tivoli for the afternoon.  Theodore had gone to sleep in the car so Maria settled him whilst Heidi and I had a chat.  It wasn’t long before Rune and the boys arrived home…
These guys have changed apartments since we were last here.  They are in the same apartment block but rather than being on the ground floor they are now on the second floor.  Their new apartment is slightly bigger than their old one and I am sure the space will be greatly appreciated with the new baby coming in March.

We had a lovely meal with them.  Heidi had cooked up a big pot of Chilli Con Carne which was certainly very tasty.  It has been really great getting to know these guys a bit better….  They are going to be joining us again tomorrow night to celebrate New Year’s Eve.
It was close to 10pm when we set off to catch the bus back to Pete and Marias.
It’s been a great day…  lovely weather, nice scenic drive, great company, lots of fireworks.  Tomorrow we get to prepare for the new year…
