A HOLIDAY TO JUTLAND....

Now they have a car, they were ready to go on a holiday...

The took the shortest route which meant they had to take the ferry across to Arrhus.  Theo loved that...

Fortunately Pete is working from home, so it really doesn't matter where they are, he is able to work, so life is very busy with two young children so they decided to head to Jutland to visit Maria's mum for a week's holiday...  a bit of TLC for this young mum...

They were based at Lonstrup for the week, and enjoyed  It was a great chance for them to get out into the fresh air and sunshine, bike rides for Theodore, and walks along the beach...

One of their family outings was a walk out to the Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse which is situated on top of Lonstrup Klint (cliff) which was about 60m above sea level.  The lighthouse operated on gas until 1908.  Shifting sands and coastal erosion are a massive problem in this area and the coast is eroding on average of about 1.5m a year.  The lighthouse ceased operating on 1st August in 1968 and for a number of years it was used as a museum and a coffee shop, but continually shifting sands caused it to be abandoned in 2002.

In 2009, the small buildings were severly damaged by the pressure of the sand and were later removed. It was expected that the tower would fall into the sea by 2023, however, works to relocate the lighthouse started on 14th August 2019 and on 22nd October 2019 the 23m high lighthouse, weighing 720tonnes, was moved 70m inland on specially built rails.  the cost of the move was 5 million Danish Kroner and was paid for by the Hjorring Council with government funding.   This move is expected to secure the future of the lighthouse until at least 2060.

I was pleased to hear this news as hopefully we will get to pay it a visit next time we are over that way...

They had a holiday house to stay in for the week.. and both of Maria's sister's joined them..

Family meal time

They arrived home in time to attend Theo's cousin Charlie's 2nd Birthday.  There is only six months difference in their age and they are now getting to the age where they are actually starting to play together...

They were invited to Rune and Heidi's place for Charlie's birthday and once again they got to use the car to travel there.  It really does make life a lot easier to get around these days...

I love that these guys keep us updated with photos from their adventures on the other side of the world... Just wish that we could be there with them to enjoy it with them..
