THEY STAYED AN EXTRA DAY...

The beauty of retirement means that we were able to enjoy the company of our good friends for an extra day...  We managed to convince them that they should spend an extra day here with us.  Whilst we had a couple of appointments in the morning, it gave them a chance to hit the shops and have a bit of a look around...

In the afternoon, Leanne and I did a water aerobics class.  We did do a lot of sitting around and chatting and then that evening we ended up going out for dinner to one of our favourite spots... The Red Lion Hotel...

The food here is always good and again we were not disappointed...

The boys both settled for the Massaman Beef Cheek which were served with sweet potato fondant, crunchy peanuts, sweet potato crisps and greens... Leanne chose the Pork Belly which was served with stir fried Asian vegetables, kipher potatoes, sweet soy ginger broth and crackle, and I chose the Pork Belly Salad which was sticky honey soy pork belly pieces with cos lettuce, slaw, onion and cherry tomatoes.  All of our meals were delicious and very generous servings.  In fact neither Leanne or I were able to finish our meals...

We enjoyed a couple of drinks, most of us enjoyed a soft drink and Pete had a glass or two of wine...

The restaurant was busy, with all the tables taken.  Even on such a busy night we had great service.  Our waitress was only new but she constantly came to check on us to make sure that we had everything we needed.  We probably sat and chatted for a couple of hours before we finally left just before 9pm.

Leanne and Pete hadn't seen our riverbank so we ended up taking them down to see it all lit up at night and also so that we had a chance to walk off our dinner.

We parked down near the playground end of Quay Street and noticed that more work has been carried out there with new public toilets having been built along with a new walkway down onto the river bank.

Pete was pretty impressed with the beautiful Heritage Tavern which was all lit up.  It really is an amazing building and I am pretty sure it is now heritage listed...  It would be a shame to ever loose a beautiful architectural building like this...

We walked around the playground...

and from here we took the pathway along the river bank to check out all the Queensland building sculptures which are along the walkway...

Our riverbank is such a credit to our local council... the riverbank is now a lovely place to go and relax right in the heart of Rockhampton.  At night it becomes a wonderland with the whole street lit up with brightly coloured lights.  The water feature dances through a blaze of colour as it goes through it's sequence.. Unfortunately the water curtain wasn't working this evening....

We walked back to the car along the footpath so that we could admire the beautiful old custom's building along Quay Street which is always beautifully lit up at night...

It really was a lovely way to end Pete and Leanne's stay in Rocky...
