A VISIT TO THE CEMETERY AND A LUNCH DATE WITH JULIANNE...

This morning Jude and I headed out to the Bundaberg Cemetery to finalise the laying to rest of Mum and Dad's ashes.  We had a young English lad that helped us and he was so good, and kind and even better was able to do it all for a lot less than we were originally quoted.

We actually went for a walk down to the wall where we had reserved a spot for Mum and Dad and re checked it out and then we were able to fill in all the paper work and have it all seen to in under an hour.  A very seamless process.

We were all finished by noon and as we still had an hour or so before we were meeting my friend Julianne for lunch, Jude took me for a drive through the cemetery to see a rather impressive headstone for a couple who have not even died yet.

These guys are chefs and own a pie shop in town.  Their pies are well known and the best around and I reckon they would probably be in their 70's already.  Jude did take me to visit the shop so that I could see for myself that they are very much alive still...

Photo of them on the wall of their bakery..

The wife Lyn still serves behind the counter and is very much alive...

Appartently we found out that they have no family here at all to organise their funeral or laying their bodies to rest so they have already taken care of all the arrangements and have it all ready to go.  All that needs to be done is add the date of their departure from this life.

I don't think I have ever seen anything like this before but good on them for being organised and getting their affairs in order....

We still had a good half hour until we were to meet Julianne for lunch, and as Jude wanted to drop into Spotlight and find another large 11litre container with a tap to speed up the process of making her Kombucha.  Appart

ently they had them on special with 40% off.  She was able to find what she was after and it was a pretty good price, much much cheaper than the others that she had bought previously.

It was quarter to one by the time we left Spotlight so we headed straight to the Railway Hotel over North Bundaberg where we were meeting Julianne for lunch.  She had suggested that we have lunch at the Spotted Dog Restaurant at the Railway Hotel.  It has a good reputation and the place was packed when we got there.

We arrived before Julianne arrived
Sisters -  not often we get to go out together like this.

We weren't there too long before Julianne arrived and joined us.  She was pretty familiar with the place as they often eat here and was able to give us her recommendations.   The meals were pretty big and there was no way I was going to manage her recommendation by myself, so decided to go for something else, although after seeing her meal, it is definitely a place I would like to take Steve and will be on our list of meals to try.  It looked amazing...

I ended up settling for the Chicken, Avocado & Bacon Grill minus the Turkish Bread.

Even this meal was way too big for me to eat on my own and I ended up getting a doggy bag and finished it for dinner that night...

Jude settled for the Roast of the Day and once again a big meal was served and she ended up taking half of hers home also.  At least we didn't have to worry about our evening meal... we just had to think of something for the boys.

Julianne's meal looked amazing.  Pork with Prawns and Calamari
I had the Chicken, Avocado & Bacon Grill with Salad and chips
Jude had the roast of the day, with sweet potato mash rather than mashed potato
Lunch time drinks..
It is always great to catch up with Julianne.  We have been friends for many years, in fact it would be over forty years of friendship as we were good mates before either of us ever got married.  We lost touch for a few years but over the last few years again, we have made the effort to catch up which had been really lovely.
My good friend Julianne Thomsen.
Girls day out for lunch

We had a lovely time together, the restaurant was completely empty with only us girls remaining.  It was just after 3pm by the time we left and even then we probably would have stayed longer if Julianne didn't have to get home to put on a roast she was cooking for guests that were coming that night...

Jude and I then headed home and when we got home, John and Zac wanted to head into town to pick up some gear, so we all ended up hopping back in the car and driving into the main Street.  Jude and I visited Silly Solly's and I picked up some birthday cards and a couple of Suduko puzzle books.

We dropped into Dan Murphy's on the way home as I wanted to introduce Jude to one of my favourite drinks at the moment...

Pretty sure it was a winner with Jude also.  A lovely refreshing drink on a hot Summer's day.
