PETE AND MARIA BUY A HOUSE.... THEY ARE MOVING TO THE COUNTRY....

Some pretty exciting news for us as Pete and Maria have bought a house in Denmark.  They currently live in their own very lovely apartment in Norrebro in Copenhagen which they will now need to sell.  They have been there now for six years and it is really lovely.  I love it, it is situated right next to the wonderful Banana Park and I will miss this great spot in Copenhagen but the apartment is way to small now that they have two children and if they want family to come visit they definitely need more room.

Their new house is situated about 40 minutes north of Copenhagen, close to one of the Fjords in Frederikssund.  They are due to move in to their new home in early April and are now keen for us to come for an extended visit...  We are keen also...

Street frontage...

The good thing about this place is that we will be able to have a hire care and have somewhere to park it.  Where they are presently living there is no where to park a car except in the street and then you are paying for every hour you have it parked there, so normally we just hire it the night before we want to go somewhere and whilst in the city do without a car and catch public transport instead...

The house is situated on a large block of land, over 800sq metres and has a great outdoor living area which is partly under cover.  There is also plenty of room for the kids to play outside in an enclosed area...

The outdoor area will be great for outdoor eating in Summer and I am sure they are going to spend a lot of time out here..

Outdoor living area..

There is plenty of paved areas around the house for the children to ride their bikes on and plenty of grassed areas for them to run around.  This will change their lives, because presently whilst they back onto Banana Park, they have very little outside play area and certainly can't be outside on their own.  Apparently their daycare centre can be seen from their place so that is going to make life so much easier for them also.
Floor Plan.

Their indoor and outdoor living areas are massive... such a change from where they are now and the home has four bedrooms, so plenty of room to sprawl out and have visitors to come and stay...  Also the spare bedrooms are at the other end of the house.  One Pete will use for an office as he works from home and the other will be a guest room for the likes of us so that we can come and stay for an extended amount of time...

Large Kitchen bench

The kitchen is massive with plenty of bench and cupboard space.  They will not know what to do with themselves, particularly after being in the small kitchen they have in their present home...

The dining room comes off the kitchen and leads straight out to their undercover area.  Their dining room table that Pete made will fit very well in this area, and their chandelier will look lovely above the table.  In Denmark, when you sell a house,  you take all your light fittings with you.  They just plug into a power point within the ceiling.  In Australia, our lights are hardwired into our electricals.  In Australia, though, we take our fridges, washing machines etc, but in Denmark, these all stay in the home that you are selling...

The dining room leads out into the undercover area at the front of the house.

Looking back into the kitchen from the dining room...
Their main lounge and living area is quite large.  In fact almost as large as ours which is over 4m long.  This lounge also leads out onto the outdoor cover area...

Good views of the children playing outdoors from this room

I think the kids are going to have to find quite a bit more furniture to furnish this home.  Living in a one bedroom apartment with a basement means that they have been living very minimalistic for the last six years....

Pete even has a shed down the back that he can play in...

Their main bathroom is a good size.

They also have quite a large laundry with lots of cupboard space...
Their main bedroom is lovely with a walk in robe area along with an ensuite.  So different to what they have had so far.  They will not know themselves....

The second bedroom is situated close to the main bedroom and this is where the boys will sleep.

The boys room..
The third bedroom which will end up being our room when we visit...

At the moment, the third bedroom is being used as a sports room for the current owner.  He is an avid fisherman and Steve is very impressed by his collection of lures which are hanging on the walls.  Steve would love it if he left those behind.  Apparently, he offered to let them buy his boat as well but they respectfully declined.  They are paying enough for the house already...

The fourth bedroom...

The fourth bedroom is the smallest of all and as Pete mostly works from home this will be set up as an office for him so that he can continue to work from home...

Situated up in  Frederikssund

Frederikssund is just a 45-minute car ride from Copenhagen in the northernmost part of Fjordlandet and situated on the shores of Roskilde Fjord in the northern part of the island of Zealand in Eastern Denmark.  The town has roughly a population of 15,500  thousand and is connected to the Hornsherred Peninsula by the Kronprins Frederik Bridge.

In Hornsherred, Frederikssund turns into farmland and idyllic country villages sprinkled with sites such as Jægerspris Castle, Manor House Museum, Selso Castle,  the large organic commune of Svanholm and thousand-year-old oak trees. The southern part of Hornsherred near Skibby is part of Skjoldungernes Land National Park.

I am sure that the kids are going to love living in this area,  I know we are going to love visiting here, and I have already found quite a few attractions around the area for us to visit and explore and I thought I would document a few of them here, so that when we finally do manage to get over to visit with them,  we will have a list of places to go and explore...
