DAY 26 - A GIRLS DAY OUT - Thursday 19th May, 2022...

Maria had the day off today, so we decided to have a girls day out.  The boys went to daycare and Steve still wanted to rest his back, so us girls set off to have some fun together...

Girls day out to go shopping...

Maria had booked a hair cut, the first she had managed to have for quite a while and was happy to enjoy a little pampering.  I was happy to just wait at the hairdressers with her..

A visit to the hairdressers
Afterwards we visited the Library and a second hand shop and she found a few outfits there that she liked.  We also found a new winter jacket for Theo that was in really good condition and very reasonably priced so we grabbed that also..
Doing a little clothes shopping

We had also planned to go have a pedicure  and manicure together but unfortunately they couldn't fit us in that day so we had to forfeit that idea.    Instead we did a bit of dress shopping.  Maria had a couple of weddings coming up and had been looking for a new dress for some of those weddings.  We did find quite a nice little green dress that would be just ideal.   It was a dress that could be dressed up for the likes of a wedding, but also dressed down so that she could get plenty of wear out of it and it really looked lovely on her.

Maria took us out for a lovely lunch at a really nice little restaurant at the main shopping centre in Frederikssund.

Maria ordering our lunch...

Celebratory drinks...

Lunch with my beautiful daughter in law....

Cheers

I had a prawn and noddle meal

Maria had a salmon and bean salad bowl.

We got home around 2pm, an hour or so before we needed to pick the children up...

In the afternoon Steve and I headed into Frederikssund as we had a little bit of shopping to do at the local Fotex Store.  Whilst we were down there we headed out to have an ice cream at the harbour...

Our favourite ice cream store...

Unfortunately they don't have Steve's favourite flavour here.  He loves his rum and raisin but has had to settle for chocolate chip and I favoured the lovely Rocky Road ice cream.  Unfortunately what you buy today may not be there next week as they seem to change their flavours daily...  And of course whilst you are in Denmark you have to have the guf on your ice cream. In Denmark they have this meringue-like ice cream topping called guf.  It actually tastes divine.  The guf you get at the ice cream shops in Denmark is often pink and tastes like strawberry.  This is because they often add a soonful of strawberry jam whilst making it.  They will often put a squirt of strawberry topping on the guf as well..

Our ice creams with a good scoop of guf on top..

Steve with is ice cream with guf and strawberry jam on top..

My ice cream with guf and jam also..

After our ice creams we had a little walk around the harbour checking out the viking ship that seems to be permanently moored in the harbour here.  It is a lovely area and would be even nicer in summer when it is warmer...
Down at Fredrikssund Harbour

Frederikssund Havn is now primarily a marina but was a commercial port since 1809.  In 1879 the railway across Roskilde Fjord opened at the rest of the bridge.

Magnificent blooms on the Havn front...

Even a resident Viking boat is moored in the harbour..

At Frederikssund Havn you can find the old steamship Skjelskør which is one of the last danish coal-fired passenger ships. Skjelskør is now owned by Danish Veteranship Club and they now offer sailing trips around Roskilde Fjord.

"Girl Setting her Hair" was erected at the entrance to the Havn in 1992.

"Girl Setting her Hair" was erected in 1992 at the harbour in Frederikssund as a gift to the city from manufacturer William Berntsen.  When the harbour was converted into a residential area, the statute was moved to an open area between Færgevej and Havnegade at the mouth of the streets by the harbor.

We had another lovely sunset to end another lovely day in Denmark.  It has been nice to have had a much slower week this week...
