Camden to Moruya
We have had a huge week.. exciting too. Too much to document. so will let the pictures tell the story.
On Sunday we got to attend church with Bruce and Bev here
It was a beautiful church... one of the originals in the district, ( over 150 years old) stands on the hill in camden, and its spire can be seen from all around the district. It was a family service the morning we were there, and we really enjoyed the service.
It was sad to say good bye to these guys. We really did have a lovely time with them. Sure hope it is not another 10 years before we get together.
We left Camden on Tuesday and headed to Nowra where we caught up with and stayed with Gail.
We arrived late Tuesday afternoon after stopping off at Kiama ( beautiful spot). Loved all the little shops. We went up to the Light house and saw the Blow Hole and coast line. Decided to stop here for afternoon tea.
We arrived in time to set up and then have dinner ( beautiful BBQ prepared by Gail and cooked by John) Gail also served us the most amazing Lemon Yoghurt Pie for desert ( have scored the recipe off her) - just melted in your mouth.
After a bit of a late start the next morning - very overcast so we kind of had a bit of a sleep in. We headed down to Jervis Bay ( had heard remarkable stories about the very white sand there)
We arrived at Huskisson just as one of the big boats was coming in from Whale Watching. GAil thought she recognized the skipper as her BIL. Wasn't sure until she head his voice, and then to cut a long story short, our plans to explore the Bay went astray and we ended up going out on his next trip on the "Extreme" to see the Whales. It was a totally amazing experience.
First we headed out through the heads to see the Dolpins play. There were heaps of them, probably 70 or more, and at one stage they were following our boat, diving in and out of the water. Amazing too watch, but a little too quick to photograph successfully. Then we headed back to Pt. Perpendicular to have a good look at all the amazing rock formations.
After we had a look at these, Glen ( our skipper) took us to see the Whales and boy did we witness a spectacular show. There were two pods, 2 mother humback wahles and their calves, and we watched them feed their calves. Quite amazing. After their feed, one of the large Humpback whales bought her calf almost over to the boat for us to see - WOW we were all in awe. They they took off just behind the boat and were playing around, flapping their pectoral fins, waving their tails around, breaching, leaving us all taking huges amounts of photos and ahhing and ohhing and hoping that we at least had some decent photos of the display. We knew it was good when then crew got their cameras out to take photos. The skipper has been doing this for 16 years, 2-3 times a day.
Needless to say by the time we got back to shore, we really didn't have time to do too much exploring. Glen (our skipper) got us back just in time to miss the shower of rain that was coming accross the bay. ( We had already been out their longer than we should have) We found a shelter shed a little further around the bay and had a picnic lunch in the rain... mind you we ate and got straight back into the car as it was getting rather cold.
That afternoon I got to meet Cathy ( Gail's SIL and also one of the Scrap of Faith girls) and her lovely children, and they joined us for dinner. Again, Gail prepared for us a most scrumious Roast Lamb dinner with her famous Chocolate Pie for desert. We were so spoilt.
It was very hard saying good bye to these lovely folk the next morning.
We woke up on Thursday to beautiful weather. Whilst Gail and I made a quick trip into Nowra to visit Spotlight ( figured I deserved to hit a girlie shop after all the Bunning stores and BCF stores we had visited) Steve packed up the van ready for us to leave.
We didn't get away until close on lunch time, and headed to Moruya via the scenic route through Ulladulla, Bateman's bay. So thankful for the sunshine and blue skies today because the coastline was absolutely spectacular so BLUE - this is certainly a very beautiful part of Australia.
ULLUDULLA
The view from the Lighthouse Lookout was pretty spectacular ( I know I use that word a lot). We also went on a couple of short bush walks to other lookout points. We even got to watch some whales playing just off the point ( not quite as moving as being up close and personal with them in Jervis Bay)
We stopped and had a late lunch on a little beach in Ulladulla near the boat harbout. Just beautiful. We probably stayed a couple of hours here, Steve had fun photographing the birdlife and got some excellent shots of some of the cormarants. We left mid afternoon to travel to Bateman's Bay.
BATEMAN'S BAY.We arrived here later in the afternoon, and just crawled along the coast, going into any lookout we could find. We just love the south coast. So very thankful for such a beautiful clear day were we could appreciate the colour and beauty of the coast. I am sure that Jervis Bay must have been this beautiful as well. It is just a little harder to appreciate the beauty when it is grey and overcast.
MORUYA
We decided to camp here for the night. Absolutely gorgeous spot - wish we could have had a few days here, but unfortunately the caravan park was booked out due to a Jazz Festival being held in town this weekend. We were camped directly on the Moruya River bank - can't even begin to describe how much we enjoyed it here. This post has been enormous. Will leave the rest of the jorney to the next post when ever that might be. At the moment we are Lakes Entrance - a very beautiful part of Victoria, even if it is very windy and very cold at the moment. Steve had hoped to get in a spot of fishing here but the weather is not looking too promising for that at the moment. Today we are having a chilling out day at home, catching up on washing, and emails etc. Might go for a drive this afternoon and get some photos, athough once again it is overcast so not the best weather for taking photos.
