A SEWING DAY...

Another at home day today....
We had a fair bit of school work to get through today...
We are trying to get as much done early in the week, so that we don't have too much to do on Friday as we will be packing to take the kids home....
Willow has been great, getting up early and getting her mental maths done before Steve and I surface.
She discovered yesterday that if she gets into it early, she finishes all her school work a lot earlier too and has more time to play.

Today she was keen for us to do some sewing and make her dolls some dresses....
I had cut out seven little dresses for her last night so that we could sew them together this afternoon...

On a mission to make dolls clothes..

Before we got into the sewing too much,  I wanted to sew one of the dresses first to make sure if fitted the doll.  I needed to know what alterations I needed to make to the pattern before making them all...

Fortunately the dress fit, so we could get  going and sew the rest.. Willow was keen to do the sewing, so I set her up on the machine and she was off...  I love the way she is so careful when sewing and so keen to do it correctly...

I am so thankful for this opportunity to spend time with her and to teach some of these skills...

 It is times like this that I wished that we lived closer to the grandchildren....
I would love it if we could spend time together each week doing something like this....
This is where I think that grandparents could come into their own... We finally have the time on our hands to spend with the younger generation and teach them some of the hands on skills...

 We're on a bit of a mission now...  I do the sewing that requires you to sew around curves, and then Willow did all the straight line sewing like the hems and gathering stiches...
She has really enjoyed being able to make these clothes

Once Steve got home, Willow was torn between continuing to sew with me or play with Steve.  He had found his old nerf guns and bought them out to have a battle with Max and Willow could see the fun that they were having...

 She did come back and did a little more on the red dresses before it was dinner time and then bed time....

 

By the time it was Willow's bedtime, we had finished sewing five little dresses.  I still had two more cut out so once she had gone to bed I decided to sit down and finish sewing the last two so that they were done for the following morning when she woke up...

 She has three dolls that need to be dressed, and these dresses would only fit her "Zoe"& "Hope"Dollies...  She still needed some dresses for her "Lucy" doll so this Moppy has a few more dresses to make yet....
That will be a job to do once she goes home...
