A WEEK AT KINKA....

This is the last week of our school holidays...
They have gone way too quickly and neither of us are ready to go back to work again next week...
Retirement is looking better every year...
Last year we spent a week at the beach just before we went back to work and it was so relaxing and rejuvenating that we decided to do the same thing again this year....
We are back down at Kinka and it is lovely...

It was a mad dash to get down here on Sunday so that we could have a whole week here...
Maybe it would have been better to have waited until the Monday to come down as we left so many things behind we had to go home Monday anyway to pick up the great list we had of those things we had left behind as well as get Steve's boat ready to bring down...
This year we have the boat down here and we spent the day out in it today...

We went exploring new territory... fishing spots we hadn't been to before...

Heading out for a day on the water
We decided to check out Coorooman Creek.  We spent four hours out there without even getting a bite.... Steve caught the smallest bait fish on his line, but the fish weren't even nibbling on our bait..
Just when we decided it was time to come home, Steve saw a sandbank and thought we would have one more try....

That's when our luck changed,  we started pulling them in...
Well that put an end to us packing up and heading home....
No fish biting....
Beautiful day out on the water
A day out fishing
This is all we caught for the first four hours we were out fishing....
Enjoying the boat ride
Enjoying being out in the great outdoors...
We weren't having much luck...
The views were really lovely...
It was a pretty hot day but at least there was a breeze on the water.... I enjoyed it more when the skies were overcast.... It just wasn't quite as hot as when it was when the sun was beating down on us....
This pelican flew overhead and landed on this beach...
On our way upstream exploring this pelican flew directly over our heads.  He looked so graceful flying through the air, and I commented to Steve that I would loved to have gotten a bit closer to take a photo of it...

Anyway on our way back to the boat ramp, we saw that he was still on the beach, so Steve came in a bit closer for me to take a photo and at the same time he thought he would throw in his line since it was near a sand bank....

I am not sure whether it was a good thing or a big mistake, as we were heading back to the boat ramp to go home, but once he cast in his line and got his first nibble ( the first all day) it meant that at least we had to make an effort to try and fish here....
fishing off the sandbank...
We started pulling in fish.... Our first whiting...
Next we got a large brim...
it was a good size....
Steve was pretty keen for me to catch a fish also, as up until now he had caught them all...
Yah  I finally caught a fish...
Catch of the day - a big Johnny Dory...
Steve started pulling in the whiting then....
getting them off the hook

that hook is well stuck in there...
Obviously when we are pulling in fish like this, no one was in a hurry to go home, so we stuck around until we caught enough for a decent feed for dinner....
I actually enjoyed the time out on the water..... Didn't enjoy the heat or the sunburn ( I slapped on the sunscreen twice whilst I was out) but I still got a bit burnt... Imagine what it would have been like if I hadn't have put any on...
Think I would prefer the winter fishing, although I enjoyed my time out with Steve....
Love these sort of days together...
