PALLET FURNITURE....A DAD AND DAUGHTER PROJECT

Chloe has been gathering old wooden pallets...
She is keen to use it to make furniture....
She approached her dad back in early February with this photo....

Found on Pinterest....
She had seen this photo on Pinterest and thought they might be able to make a desk from some of the pallets she has stored in our back yard....

The next process was doing some drawings and making a plan...
So Chloe set to work and came up with these drawings....
The initial drawings of the desk she wanted....

The regular visits started next....
They could be seen out in the back yard doing this...
Pulling the pallets apart and dressing the timber..

Planning the boards...

Chloe spent the afternoon removing all the nails...
and getting them ready for her Dad to dress...
This took them a couple of weekends...
Then we were hit by a cyclone....
This put the building project on hold for a few days...
She was faithful in her visiting of us, coming home afternoons after work to get another coat of paint put on the boards...
Painting the table top...
Getting plenty of tips from her Dad
Demonstrating her to do it...
Time for her to take over again...
She came daily to sand and restain until it was all done...
Then it was time to think about how to put in a drawer....
They were happy with their initial drawings and ideas so it was back to the drawing board for Chloe...
This is what she came up with...
A cut out for where she will sit....
rendered drawings of her desk..
the finished product should look like this...
Then it was time to work out how they were going to put in a drawer...
This was a new experience for both of them....
Steve watched You Tube video's to find out how to do it.
and they devised a plan...
This is where they had to buy a little bit of timber to finish the desk...
Chloe's boyfriend Dan came over and spent some time painting the drawer for her...
Dan giving Chloe's drawer a good sand before painting...

Must be true love
Steve started working on the framework to put the drawer in the desk....

Chloe gets a lesson..
Measuring up
Chloe takes over
Working out where to cut it...
Looking good...
Mean while Dan has sanded and painted....
Dan's little brother Dylan looks on.
Meanwhile, they were working overtime trying to get as much done as possible as Steve knew that once he was back and work, and had his surgery, it would all be put on hold again for a few weeks...
Cutting out the top...
They got this far and then it all got put on hold...
Steve had his surgery and was pretty sick for a couple of weeks...
Chloe was so keen to get it all finished and set up in her unit...

Yesterday, she arrived over and they were into it again...

It was time to finish the desk,,, put the supports in to hold the frame together, and screw on the vanished timber top to the desk...

Table top down on the floor ready to have the frame screwed on...
Steve started screwing in the supports for the frame..
Showing Chloe how to do it...
just about ready for the top to go on...

Place the base of the desk on the table top...

Trying to line it up
measuring it now to make sure the overlap on each side is the same.
Steve measuring the other end of the table

Starting to screw it in..

Chloe watching on..
Steve getting her to check out what he has done...
Finally screwing the top on...
Chloe takes over
Press harder Chloe... She screws in the rest of the screws..
Lots of lovely bonding time,  and lots of lessons learnt
Only a couple of screws to go
So excited.... last screws being screwed on.

 Yahoo....
It is all finished,  what are we going to be doing next...
WOW... how good does it look

Gorgeous finish on the top...
So proud of all her work...

I got Steve and Chloe to take it outside so I could get some decent photos of it before she packed it in the car and took it home...
It is amazing what you can do with some all pine pallets...
Such a good job
View with the drawer pulled out.
So proud of them both.
Just another view of it...
From the other side...

One happy chicken...

She couldn't wait to get it in the car and get it home to her place...
I think Steve was a little sad,  I think he would have enjoyed having it home for another day or so, so that he could admire it also.
She borrowed our Landcruiser and took it home...
Proudly placed in it's new home at Chloe's place
She is keen to start a new project...
She wants to make some bedside tables next and do up her bed to make a bedroom suite...
I am hoping that some work in my kitchen happens first...
