A WEEKEND AWAY TOGETHER....

It was nice to have a weekend away with Steve...It was the last spare weekend we could have together before the end of the school year....
From now on it,  we won't have any spare time....

It was more than just a weekend for us...
We needed to check on Steve's parents....
They were going to meet us at Turkey and we were going to have the weekend together...
It would also give Steve a chance to take the boat out and for us to do a sport of fishing....

We left from work Friday afternoon,  the weather was pretty bad here,  we had a severe weather warning out for storms and hail.    The only rain we got was as we left town and even then it wasn't that much.... Had a couple of light showers on the way but nothing else...
We arrived down there around dinner time, and Steve's mum had one of her famous roast chicken dinners for us....  Something that all the family looks forward to if they go home...
So much so, that the boys will send each other texts with photos of themselves enjoying it....

enjoying his wonderful roast chicken dinner....
Saturday morning we both got up really early as we wanted to get out onto the water and drop some crab pots in.   We were about three minutes from the boat ramp when suddenly the engine just died....,  it seemed we had a fuel blockage.    We got it going again and it wasn't long before it died on us again....  After this happened three or four times we decided to head back to the ramp.  It was obviously we needed to do some maintenance before we took it out...

It meant a trip into Gladstone for us to get a new fuel connection.. Still as disappointing as it was not to get some crab pots in,  we did spend a nice morning together, and I managed to pick up a really good 40+  long sleeve UV shirt to go fishing in.  It wasn't for the sun, it was more to protect my arms from the sandflies which were vicious down there.

We got back around lunch time... Picked up some lunch and headed back out in the boat to go for a fish... This time,  success,  no problems at all.
Heading out for our first fish in the boat....
First we needed to get some bait....
Good thing it was low tide, so we headed for the nearest yabbie bank to pump ourselves some bait...
The yabbie bank was pretty muddy and Steve soon started sinking into the mud, so it was decided that I would stay in the boat and wait.  He pumped me a few yabbies and I then fished whilst he pumped the rest...
Pumping those yabs....
Pumping yabbies...
filling the basket...
Time to head back to the boat... Basket full.....

There weren't too many fish around.....
In fact I didn't even get a bite.....
Not even a nibble....
I think it was my worst fishing day ever....
I mightn't of got any fish but I did enjoy being out on the water with Steve...
Steve's parents were fishing a little upstream from us...
Steve's parents fishing...
Heading back to join us...
They didn't fare that well either, although they did do better than us...
I think they caught four fish, and they were out a lot longer than us...
Obviously we weren't the only ones not catching fish, because everyone back at the boat ramp was having a bad day also....
Steve decided to try fishing off a bank as we weren't getting any fish whilst sitting in the boat...
Not having much luck fishing off the bank either...
I stayed in the boat and continued to fish from there...
Can't say it did me any good...
In the end I ditched the fishing rod and got out my phone to take a few photos...
Seemed just as productive as trying to catch a fish...
Steve fishing off in the distance...
The tide is coming in....
It comes in pretty quickly...
Within 10 minutes the water was starting to cover all this sand..

Steve's parents getting ready to head back...
Looked like there was a bit of a storm brewing, so we decided to head home also.  It wasn't like we were catching any fish or anything...

We had a good run back to the boat ramp.  At least the tide had come in, so we didn't have to worry about the sandbanks the same as when we had headed out at lunch time....
Dark clouds brewing in the idstance..

There were a few boats at the boat ramp.  It seemed like everyone had the same idea as us..  they didn't want to get caught out in the storm....
By the time we got the boat out of the water thought, it seemed like the clouds were breaking up.
That would be right, if we had decided to stay out, we would have got drenched....
Come back to the boat ramp and the storm doesn't eventuate...
Anyway the boat ramp was busy so we decided to come and do a beach landing...
Hitching up the boat...
hooking up the boat.... ready to head home...
Swimming enclosure at Turkey...
We had a pretty early start this morning and then sitting out in the sun for most of the day,  I was feeling pretty tired when we got home.... I crashed on the bed and ended up having a two hours sleep.

Not a good move,  it was dark when I woke up,  I wondered how I was ever going to get back to sleep tonight.....
