WILLOW MAKES A SKIRT..

Wednesday was a quite day at home.  Both the children had us up during the night.  Both have bad colds and Max has conjunctivitis.  It was decided that we needed a quite day at home today,  The children really need a good rest.  Willow was still keen though to do some sewing, so I suggested that perhaps we could make her a little skirt.  She was very keen and went through my bag of materials and picked out three pieces of fabric that she liked and wanted to make skirts from.

Once we had cut our fabric Willow was super excited about being able to use the sewing machine to sew her skirt.  Initially she was a little nervous about using the pins, and I did rule a couple of lines for her to sew on.

I couldn't beleive how focused she was.  She was very particular and her sewing was really neat.  In fact she sewed a straight line better than a lot of adults I've seen do it.

She was a little nervous about using the pins to start with because she was frightened that they would prick her.  I showed her how we always use the pins so that the pin heads are facing you and the pointy end is facing away from you.  She was fine then and would sew along the fabric until just before she got to a pin and would stop and pull it out.  In the end she was sewing quite a bit faster than when she first started and she was confident..
The only sewing I did for her was to use the overlocker and just run around the hem line and the top of the shirt before she turned it over to make casing for her elastic, and ironed her hem up.  I showed her how to iron our you seams and she handled the  iron  ironing the whole skirt before sewing up her hem...

In the afternoon we ducked out to go and do a little shopping to buy some elastic and some ribbon to make a bow for the front of her skirt.

Whilst we were out we also went looking for a little T shirt to match her skirt and we got a little carried away in K-Mart where we picked up some great little specials.  Her T shirt cost us $1.50.  We found a couple of little dresses for $7,  some shorts for $5 and we also picked up some pretty shoes on special for her also.  She was so excited.

All Willow needed to do when we arrived home was to thread her elastic through the casting of her skirt.  This proved a little difficult as there was quite a lot of fabric to thread onto such a small piece of elastic so in the end I did that for her..

She was delighted with her new skirt...
Her skirt completed.
Super proud of her skirt...
Of course she was very happy to get dressed up and model it for us all.

We still had another couple of pieces of fabric that Willow had picked out for skirts.   In the end she asked me if I could make them for her as she had done enough sewing for today.  She told me she had worked hard all day and she hadn't had any time to play and she wanted to play now... Bless her little heart...

So once she went to bed that night,  I finished making the other skirts from the other fabrics she ha picked out.
When her Uncle Pete and Aunty Maria saw her skirt they told her that she would have to make something for their new baby.  Willow was quite excited about doing this but then got really concerned about what we could make for their baby because we didn't know what sort of baby they were going to have.

I told her we could do it next holidays when we knew whether she would have a bog cousin or a girl cousin.  That seemed to satisfy her and she happily went off to play.
