THE START OF OUR MUCH AWAITED HOLIDAY...

Pretty excited morning, as today we meet up with Ian and Kathy for the start of our holiday to Agnes Waters and Cania Gorge.

We made good time this morning with our packing and were ready to pull out of the caravan park by 9am.  We were heading through to the Wyper Park Scout Park in Bundaberg for an overnight stay where we were meeting up with Ian and Kathy.

We hadn't planned to meet them there till lunch times and as we had a bit of time on our side, we decided to do a detour and take the 20km drive into Buxton to check it out.  We have driven past this sign for years  making the comment that we need to check it out but never seemed to have the time to do it…

It wasn’t what I expected.  I thought it was on the coast but it is actually a little fishing community on the Burrum River.  I’m pleased I have seen it now, but probably wouldn’t venture in again.  I think I would prefer to stay at Burrum Heads rather than here.

We arrived at the Wyper Park Scout Park around lunch time to be greeted by Ian and Kathy who had arrived the previous day.  We found a nice grassy spot close by to them and set up our van.

Wyper park is situated around 10 klms south of Bundaberg on the Isis Highway and is a delightful bush setting on the banks of the Burnett River.

There is a caretaker on site and camping is allowed for a maximum of 4 days (council restrictions) and registration is by self registration.

Camping is only allowed in the immediate vicinity of the caretakers residence and the site is closed during scouting events and when wet to preserve the grounds.  There are toilets and showers, but you need to bring your own water as there is no power or water to connect to your vans.

We had a picnic lunch in one of the shelter sheds near where we had set up our vans....

After our lunch we had a quick explore around the park checking out the Burnett River as it is set on the banks of the river

We even found a native bee hive on our wander around the park

Stunning views of the Burnett River...

There were a couple of friendly goannas which visited out camp sites.

By 3pm we headed into town to visit Steve’s parents for afternoon tea.

We were perhaps a 100m from their place when Ian ran over a huge bolt of some sort that went straight through his tyre.  We could hear the thump thump thump as he drove down the road. We stopped to find out what was causing the noise when we saw the bolt.  We then limped on to Steve’s parents where Steve’s dad helped Steve and Ian change the tyre..

Once the tyre was changed we spent a lovely couple of hours with Steve’s parents before picking up some Red Rooster in town and heading back to the vans for dinner..  Easy dinner tonight, enjoyed having dinner together and played a game together before heading to the toilets and showers...

The night sky out here is stunning, we are just far enough away from town to be able to see all the stars overhead, and the sky is little up like Christmas lights,  It truly is quite magical and a memory that all of us will savour....
