A VISIT TO LYELL DEER SANCTUARY

I love that Sarah and Colin make it a priority to fit in family days in their very busy schedules.

Just before we arrived they took the children out to the Lyell Deer Sanctuary.. The Sanctuary is situated at Mount Samson, and is home to a small herd of rescued deer; a motley crew of red, rusa and fallow deer.  This peaceful little hideaway in the beautiful Samford Valley is just 30 minutes from the centre of Brisbane, and is becoming more popular as a destination for not only children but also adults.

The Lyell Deer Sanctuary has been caring for deer for over thirty years, and attracts visitors from all over the world who would like to get up close to these beautiful creatures in a lovely peaceful and beautiful setting.

The highlight of visit here is that you ca cuddle, sit with and hand feed the deer.  The family owners are welcoming as well as having a wealth of insider knowledge about the fascinating animals that call the sanctuary home.    For $1 you are able to buy a bag of deer pellets, and hand feed the hungry deer through the fence, and then wander in amongst the animals to get up close and personal with these majestic creatures,

You are also able to bring your own picnic and eat on the premises, and their is a small cafe on the premises where you can buy ice creams and other snacks..

Mostly the sanctuary is only open on weekends from 10am to 4pm.  Weekdays and public holidays it is only open by appointment only.

Price wise it is very affordable for a family as it is only $10 per family group of up to 6 people.  It is also a great day out...  The kids absolutely loved it...
