DAY 44 & 45. - DENMARK ADVENTURE, BACK HOME TO PETE & MARIA'S... Monday 6th & Tuesday 7th June, 2022...

More to come....

Day 44 & 45. It was with a heavy heart we left Lonstrup to head back to Fredriksund as this meant we were only a couple of days off now leaving Denmark to head home to Australia. The weather didn’t help our mood either, as in contrast to yesterday, today was bleak and overcast with showers of rain.

I think we were all feeling a little sad to say goodbye to Maria’s family. They are such lovely folk and have always made us feel very much part of their family. We had a family breakfast together before leaving to celebrate Maria’s Mum’s birthday which was this week and then had a few family group photos taken before we left around 10.30am.

We had a two and a half hour drive to Aarhus where we where catching another ferry to take us back to Zealand, the island that Pete and Maria live on. We also had to make a slight detour to pick up some gear from Maria’’s sister Hanna as we were giving both her sisters a lift home. The weather wasn’t the best on this drive as it rained most of the way to Aarhus and even rained as we boarded the ferry.

This ferry trip was only an hour and a quarter, just enough time for us to have lunch before it was time to drive off again. The trip back on Zealand, was rather slow as there were a lot of cars getting off the ferry as it was a long weekend, and the road from the terminal was only single lane with the speed limit between 60 and 80kms. It was close to 5pm by the time we arrived back at Pete and Maria’s. The first thing everyone did when they got back home was check the garden. We had been gone for 12 days and were pretty amazed at the changes we saw.

The vegie garden was doing well, the fruit trees all had baby fruit on them, but it was the flower gardens that really took us by surprise. There were a whole new group of plants flowering. That is the thing that I love about Denmark. Since we have been here, the gardens and flowers change from week to week. It is truly spectacular. As it was a long weekend, very few shops were open. We had thought that we might of got some break and had toasted sandwiches for dinner, but the only store open had sold out of basics like bread and milk, so Pete grabbed some noodles and we had a stir fry instead. Theo was adamant that he wanted to use chop sticks like the grown ups. Pete wanted him to use a fork, but did tell him that if he could manage the chopsticks he could use them. Well he certainly surprised us by managing them alright and even eating his dinner with the,. For a three year old, he is prepared to tackle anything and he usually does it well.
