DAYS 49 & 50 - DENMARK ADVENTURE - HEADING BACK TO AUSTRALIA... Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th June, 2022...
More to come...
Day 49 and 50. Our final morning in Denmark. I was up super early, as I couldn’t sleep, took to the lounge with a cup of tea and just savoured the moment. Taking in my surroundings so that I don’t forget for a minute how wonderful the last seven weeks have been, and how this country really doesn’t feel like a second home to us…
Theo didn’t want us to leave, in fact he came in and wanted me to help him back a little bag o that he could come back with us to Australia. He was prepared to come for 10 days and then informed me that I would then have to bring him back home…
Breakfast was a little somber as we were all feeling quite sad that we were leaving…
Theo and Elliot played their special game with Pete, we then have a gift and some slick (lollies) for them before we finally left.
The boys were climbing in the car as they wanted to come with us… We received a traditional farewell from them all with the Danish flag waving and then we were off to the airport. We had a good run back into the city and arrived 4 hours before our flight. The car was delivered back to Hertz and then we walked the couple of Kilometres with all our luggage back to Terminal 2 where we were departing from.
Check in didn’t take too long at all, we were through pretty quickly and it was then time to find somewhere to grab a drink and a bit of lunch before we went to our departure gate. We were very fortunate that we had a spare seat next to us on both legs of our journey home which at least allowed us to sprawl out a little.
We left Copenhagen right on 3.30pm for our six hour
flight to Dubai. For this leg we had a window seat so was nice to have a last
look at Copenhagen as we flew out. We were only in the hour a couple of hours
when we were served our first meal, and then both Steve and I managed to watch
a couple of movies before arriving into Dubai. We arrived in Dubai at midnight,
so the views of the city as we landed wer12e quite pretty, almost like a fairy
wonderland. Our lay over was only two hours which just gave us enough time to
get off the plane go through security and then catch the coach to take us to
the departure terminal. It was a good thing we didn’t have to walk, as it was a
good 5km bus run to Terminal A where our flight was departing from. We had to
go through security again in this terminal and then it was time to board this
flight for our final leg home. Two hours into our flight and we were served
breakfast. After this we both tried to sleep for a few hours. This is the leg
of the flight that we do not enjoy. Fourteen hours in the air is a long long
time. We arrived back in Australia at 10,30pm Saturday night 12/6 around
10.30pm. It was a painless task getting through border security and we
collected lugged and checked through security and were out in the car park
waiting for Dan and Chloe by 11pm. It is still very hard to believe that the
last seven weeks had gone so quickly. It felt like only yesterday that we were
boarding the plan to head over to see Pete and Maria and the boys. Although
leaving Pete and Maria and with the long leg of the journey finally over, it
was nice to be back on our home soil with the rest of our family. It wouldn’t
have been more perfect if we could have bought them back with us...
